    Default Stuff I learned today

Man, I have learned some stuff today on my Playbook.

First of all, I found out that I can set my PB to 5.0GHz and Wireless N. I had it set to the default of dual band and it always connected at 2.4GHz before. I got a new Cisco E4200 and it lets me setup the 5GHz network as Wireless N only and the 2.4GHz as mixed. So, I changed the PB to 5.0GHz only, and sure enough, I was able to connect to the 5GHz Wireless N ssid. Pretty cool.

Second of all, I found out that I could setup QoS on my E4200 by putting in the MAC address of the PB. I don't have quantifiable stats, but it seems to help me with streaming video/data to the PB, such as splashtop and tversity.

Speaking of streaming, I had some issues with splashtop that I think I've worked out. I was trying to stream netflix via splashtop and it would drop my connection from the PC after a short period of time. I found and updated the splashtop streamer on the PC side and that seems to have fixed that problem. I also realized that I need to set netflix to not stream in HD to get a better connection. I found I can also stream slingbox from the PC via splashtop if I set the bandwidth to minimal.

    Default I tried it also

I tried 5Mbps also. I thought it would be great since I have two WiFi 2.4 nets in my home and can see three others nearby. I found 802.11n (2.4) is giving me 65Mbps, which is better than I can get with 5M so I stayed on 2.4.

My problem is someone in my house spends too many hours streaming and doing Xbox live online. That kills my Internet connection speed.

I could plug the other net, with the streaming and Live into the dmz on my main firewall and throttle the bandwidth but, I'm to nice.
A new paradigm is coming. Can you feel the shifting zeitgeist?

Stuff I learned today - it takes 24 hours to back up (manually, since DM backup bombs out if I try to back up content), reinstall the OS, and restore everything to my Playbook. And it didn't fix the camera issue, but it left me with the charger issue where the screen does what it wants to when on charge.

Oh well, time to budget for a new 32GB one to replace this one. It's a year old after all.
