I have a pdf book that I've synced to my Playbook, but when I read it on the Playbook, it only has content for the first 13 pages. It shows all 313 pages, but after page 13, each page is blank. I've opened the PDF on my PC and confirmed that nothing is wrong with the PDF, i.e., there is content on each of the 313 pages. This has happened whether I've copied the pdf from my PC to the folder on the Playbook or opened it as an email attachment. It's also seems to happen with every pdf file. Is there a setting that limits the size of pdf files? Is there a way to re-install pdf reader (I don't see it as an app in app world)?
Yup, I've done that, but it doesn't work. Once I get into a few pages, all the remaining pages are blank. It seems to happen with any large Adobe file. I think it's a bug, but it is only affecting some of the Playbooks. Others (like you) seem to be running it fine.
Is it a pdf file available publicly? The version (accessed by pressing the Adobe logo in upper left) says Adobe Reader X V10.0.0 - probably the standard.
What else do you have open when you try reading the pdf?
It's my own pdf file - I've tried loading both a book and a number of manuals, all with the same result. I have nothing else open when I open it. I'm not sure how to check my Adobe version though.
when you say "synced" you mean you are trying to open a bridge message attachment pdf?
Sometimes I have the same problem.
I forward the email with attachment to myself.
The second time email attachment opens correctly.
I have not had the problem when I use a pc<>pb by usb and paste the pdf file into any pb folder.
By sync I mean I copy and past the pdf file from my PC to one of the Playbook folders when attached via USB. I spent an hour on the phone with tech support yesterday and they were basically useless. They gave the following excuses:
- It's an AT&T problem since AT&T won't allow large pdf files. I explained this makes no sense since I'm not using the bridge to read the file.
- It's a known problem when using the Playbook via an Enterprise Server. Similar to the first excuse I explained that this likewise doesn't make any sense since I'm not using the Enterprise Server to read the files.
Ultimately they couldn't resolve the issue and were going to have me restore the OS, but since I got my Playbook from my company, I would need my IT dept to reinstall the OS.
This is a really strange issue that I need to resolve b/c I typically need to read large pdf files.
So it may come back to a question of what "format" the problem pdf file is? That is what program created it? Was it created using an adobe product or did you, say Print-to-pdf or use Word or xyz? Again, I'm not a pdf expert but are there newer versions of the pdf format that might stymie the adobe reader on the pb. Do you have the docs-to-go pdf reader on a phone and does the whole file show there?
I've only used it for conversions for the kindle and then, again, I have not checked all of the resulting files so I don't know how effective/correct it is. I've also not really looked at settings - are they options for converting to pdf? You might also ask in the Calibre forum on Mobileread if you have not done so.
