Stopped by Rogers store today and...
asked about when they will get the RIM Playbook and the sale manager said potentially late December. Now in my head I was hoping for January, any date in Jan would make me a happy camper, so when I heard a potential date in December I basically did the double take. She stone-coldly said it could be in December that's what she was told from the head office. I then sneaked a cheeky question of asking if I can put my deposit in now for a 64 giger and she told me that she does not know how the price break down by capacity nor dies she know how many she will get so no list has been made.
Bitter sweet to what went on today but sounded very promising. - 11-11-2010, 08:03 PM #2
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you.
I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world. - 11-11-2010, 08:06 PM #3

I was at the local Verizon store today and was talking to the manager and he said that there's a potential for pigs to be flying around come the end of the year. Sounds promising, because those store reps and managers know everything there's to know about anything...
Really though, we don't know anything about a date until RIM announces one. I'd be willing to bet that even the CEO's of carriers don't have any more of an idea for a release date than we do. It's all on RIM, so I find it impossible that a store manager would have any clue. She was just feeding you BS so you don't spend all your Christmas money on some other thing when she wants you to buy the PlayBook from her when it eventually comes out.

If it come early then that would be sweet. The building I work in is just on to of the store so will be checking in as Dec approach.
There is always a glimmer of hope that on Dec 16 when RiM announnces their earning that they might say something that might support what the store manager said. Again just hoping.

I have a friend who works for company X. Company X is going to be doing something with RIM for the Playbook launch in December. Supposedly about the 2nd week. So it sounds like it will be out by Xmas.
BTW, friend at company X is personally involved with the project so its not just company heresay. (HEARSAY

I am just hoping what you're saying coupled with what the Rogers' store manager said to me come to fruition. I am planning a trip next Spring so would like to have a PB before this trip so I can play with (obviously) and to download all the necessary apps for my trip.

well RIM said today that it was Q1 2011, so if the co-CEO is wrong then they have big problems lol, that doesnt mean they wont start a pre-order or a major advertising campagin or summat, but RIM seems to be sticking to the 2011 date that they mentioned in devcon and ever since.

All I know is they have some sort of big Playbook thing going on in mid December. When it actually hits stores is still anyone's guess. I'm hoping it will coincide with this event and we will see it prior to Q1 of 2011, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

IF they do release it by the end of 2010, AND it's fully polished, no major issues, bug free, etc, AND outperforms the competition (ipad)...what a kick in the crotch to the haters. i just hope that whenever it releases, that they really make sure it's ready and not full of issues/bugs/whathaveyou's...

In recent public outings, RIM has taken a page out of Apple's marketing book. Toying with the media by teasing the PB functionality in bit and bit. I will not be surprised if on December 16, when RIM announce their earning, that they will shock the tech world with an earlier release date.

You're not even required to get a contract for a BB phone, a contract just gives you a subsidized price. In this case though there's cell radio and therefore no data plan, so carriers can't subsidize it (they make their money from the plans). Every PlayBook will be bought at full price with no contract. This may change when we get a 3G/4G version.
