My playbook is all set up but I am still having a problem connecting to wifi to get in to app world. We have wifi and my friend's ipad is connecting no problem so I don't think there's a problem with the router. We try to connect manually and WPS but neither work. We get "authentication timed out".

Knocking my head on the desk here.....

1. Try powering down and back up the WIFI router.
2. Then set it up manually and not use the WPS.

Is the router broadcasting the SSID? I had this issue with mine. I would receive the exact same error. I had to set my router to broadcast before it would actually connect. Once it connected I set it back to no broadcast and it would connect with no issues thereafter.

I guess it has to "see" it before it will guess it's there...

is the wifi profile from the blackberry phone? the saved one that's ported to the playbook?

if so, delete it first..

The mix-up and problem I had on the 1st set-up was when the PB asked for the 'password,' I was entering the router password instead of the "shared network key". After I put in the key it was off and running.
