This might sound weird but I will try to explain.

I received my Mini Keyboard yesterday and after charging it I started to stream videos (using wi-fi connection so I had wi fi and bluetooth enabled).

I noticed it took a lot to load the websites or even Facebook.

Then I decided to disconnect the keyboard and the streams and website navigation were fine again.

So I was wondering if there is relationship? I can not figure out what happened, tested again and same problem.

    Thanks

Q: do you bridge your PB to your phone while doing this ?
Possible issue : conflict with BT bridge and Wifi : try to unbridge and see what appends.

No, its only the Keyboard and the Playbook (Wi Fi enabled too).

I do not think you can connect 2 BT devices in PB thought?

Of course you can have more than one BT device connected to playbook.
I have had my phone bridged along with BT keyboard and a BT mouse.
    All worked fine.

Your bluetooth frequency might be interfering with your wifi. Try changing your wifi frequency band on your router to see if it helps.

Bluetooth and wifi both operate in the same frequency so they interfere with each other.

If you know how to change your router's wifi channel, then change the wifi channel.

If you don't know how to do that --- then unplug the router, turn off the Playbook and turn off the mini-keyboard and then turn them all back on.

    Thats probably right.

try connecting on A/G/N it should be 5.0GHz
Bluetooth uses 2.4 and well as B/G Wifi, and could be causing interfearance.

2.4 carries better the 5.0 so the playbook might preffer the 2.4 band. try maualy changing it. if you edit the wifi connection on the playbook change band type to 5.0ghz and see if that helps

Tried connecting it to 5.0 and it stopped finding the hot spot :P

Damn this is a bit disappointing.

I just confirmed that using the keyboard and wifi enabled affect navigation as some of you stated it might be because both use the same band (2.4) so this create a conflict.

The problem is that 90% of the routers here use the 2.4 (even the Starbucks I went to test).

The keyboard is great I loved it... But if using it avoid me from using Internet what's the purpose of it . I want to cry.

I really would like to hear more about this potential issue. Sounds like it could be a real problem but unless others have not noticed this conflict, this is the first I've read about it.

Yeah I would like to know that too.... To be honest the keyboards is great!!!! that is the only issue that is driving me nuts.

I tried streaming a youtube video with a 5mb connections (at a store and at home) when i was connected to keyboard it would not even load the stream... but when I disconnected it the stream was going pretty smooth.

    Its so weird....

I guess you could call Tech Support. Or take this to Rim's official forum (although I don't think they respond directly - more user to user).

The PB has a one year warranty to the original purchaser. It also has 90 free Tech support. I do not know how Rim deals with "quasi-tech support v. warranty"

So it seems that there is an issue with devices connecting (bluetooth) to the playbook and slowing down the internet. I had a similar case...

Long story short, my playbooks internet speed would slow down quite a bit whenever I connect my BB9700 as a remote. At one point, browsing Youtube videos would not even load, that's how much it slowed it down. Anyway, a forum member on here (who I won't name) happened to be a Playbook Support Specialist noticed I had an issue and actually reopened my ticket with RIM (after RIM tech support brushed the issue as "it's the way it's designed). The issue was then escalated.

After more than a month of back and forth emails and sending logs, it was raised to the Senior team, and apparently after raised to the development team to handle this issue in the future. No conclusion was reached but I was told it will be looked at because the development team do not work on the same ticket issue that I have reported my issue on "so it should be resolved in a future update of the tablet or bridge software" - RIM support

I've switched routers and it seems the issue is much less now. A simple test is to connect your remote, launch Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and do a speed test.

With the remote connected sometimes I would even get an error, but usually ill end up with 2Mbps. Close down the browser completely, disconnect the remote, do the same test and voila, ill get my 16Mbps. Another simple test is to attempt to play a 5 minute+ video on Youtube with your remote disconnected. Watch the loading bar as soon as you connect the remote, it will bog down instantly. Disconnect the remote again, and the loading bar will go fast again. Keep doing that and you will clearly see that there is an issue. The issue is more apparent if you DON'T allow your remote to go into idle mode for both "tests"

This is an extremely frustrating issue on my "old"modem (which is actually a new D-link router/modem). Now, my old speedtouch seems to do a better job with this issue, but it's not completely eliminated.

Well its seems they did not solve the issue with this new keyboard .

Its really sad because the KB is really really nice.... but whats the purpose of it if you can not use Browser?

That really does suck honestly. I know using a different modem helped with the issue but did not completely eliminate it. Also, according to Crackberry some update that will happen to bridge and OS2.1 that will allow us to bridge our phones using the existing wifi connection. I think this should resolve the issue for the remote control. Not sure what the solution is for the keyboard though

Agreed. I use Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, and BlackBerry Bridge to connect to the Internet sometimes and never noticed any additional delay when navigating the World Wide Web compared to not having the keyboard and mouse connected. A sample size of one for a particular alleged problem is too small to be statistically reliable.

Speedtest.net with and without any peripherals attached please

We may be able to rule out whether it is interfering with your LAN or if it is causing a problem with the device.

Like i said, changing out my new modem with the old really made the issue less apparent. I wish i took a video of speedtest.net test with and without peripherals attached back then.

However, I did take a video of me attempting to use the Youtube app with and without remote. The difference is massive as apparent with this video, and my speedtest results (2Mbps vs. 16Mbps). OP, give www.speedtest.net a try with the keyboard connected and disconnected, see what results you get.

    Here it is:

Kmflame, didn't mean to derail your thread, but I believe your issue and mine stem from the same problem. Hoping to see more people come forward who have similar issues.

Do you know whether the old/new routers were on different wireless channels? That may explain the behaviour you observed.

I had an issue with that as well. Every time I turned on Bridge, wifi speed dropped like a rock. I had Netgear DGND2000. So I went out and tested on different networks and no problem. When I got back home, the problem reappeared. I bought a new router, a DGND3700 and the problem completely disappeared.

    Current router settings: 802.11b/g 2.4Ghs Channel 9
Old router settings: **will update post in a couple of hours**

Heres a picture showing speedtest.net results with current modem:

Test was done over 5 times with consistent results. I never got over 6Mbps with remote connected. However, as mentioned, the difference with this modem is barely noticeable. With the old modem it was unuseable, sometimes clocking speeds of just .80Mbps as opposed to 16Mbps. I believe the OP is facing an identical issue as me.
