I just came across this link and i noticed on the home screen it has the little sub categories of "all, favorites, media, games, etc" above the short cuts (see link). On MY home I have room for 6 or whatever icons and I can make a folder called "games" and put several in it but how do you make that extra little section above with the wording/button for sub categories.

This is playbook os1. Unless there Is a way to downgrade your os.

I actually prefer the one in os 2 though. Even on my BB i disable these 'panels'.

That was the original OS and has been changed - it no longer is an option. Now we have Folders that you can name.

You can also have icons off to the right (swipe from right to left) on a second panel or pane.

I like the folders myself but it would be nice to be able to customize or get a throw back look.

I've only used OS2 and looking at those pics and vids prefer OS2. That, for me looks dated.
