Default Saw Something Encouraging at Best Buy Today

Just a quick story about something I saw at my local Best Buy today. I was there for something unrelated but walked by the tablet display. A sales kid was showing the Playbook to a mid-aged couple, so I slowed down a little bit to hear what was being said. I was really surprised, this kid was pulling out all the good sales points he could about the Playbook. The guy in the couple kept countering "well, the iPad can do...." & "I heard the iPad has....", but the kid countered all the iPad comments I heard with good sales pitches about what the Playbook can do and better (standard stuff like Flash support and full office software pre-installed and 2.0 coming). I didn't hang around too much, just enough to make me smile and think the Playbook might actually have a sales chance in this market if this one kid at BB is supporting it.

Just thought I'd share.

always good to hear.

i am praying to the lord above that RIMM has set some rules and standards for any retailer of the PB in the way they present the blackberry playbook.

i loose respect for alot of people that are completely i-brainwashed. i am certainly not one that is impressed by the apple tablet.

live long and prosper to RIMM

Well the rim strategy to sell the playbook anywhere there willing to carry it has backfired. This instance is by far the exception more than the rule. Apple store ensured anything they hear about their products is good. Maybe we need bb stores

Would be nice if the best buy near me actually had working demo units.. they have 2 of them sitting right there next to ipads which are functional.

Futureshop on the other hand has a nice working demo unit with lots of advertising around it.

If people could actually compare the 2 side by side they can see PB really does stack up and excels in many areas.

Funny you mention this is more the exception than the rule. Made me realise that if this was the normal, it really wouldn't make for a fun post to read (like reading a post that says a guy heard someone talking nicely about the iPad....not exactly that unusual). In any event, I was happy to hear the sales kid talking nicely (and intelligently) about it.

I was at Office Depot for something else and walked by the PB display. It was working and I also noticed the price was back to original prices. So maybe with 2.0 coming they figure they can go back to old prices.

Lot better than at Office Depot. Many locations were sold out of the 64gb, but when calling I found one that had them. It was out of town & my wife was purchasing, the salesman told her they weren't making them anymore. The local staples that had a demo was the same way; the manager was kind of hush hush to his salesman that their dead, won't be anymore.

I just can't understand their logic; if they weren't making them anymore, wouldn't that be the time to really push the item & get it out of inventory at the lower price? I really don't think it's been a fair chance.

You didn't stick around to see if they bought one?

i have thought about getting a job at BB for a long time... just so i can show people that there are actually people that know their tech stuff and to make sure people dont get screwed over by stupid BBuy employees...

I guess this kid is doing the work for me. Good to hear!

There is nothing encouraging about being in a BestBuy, it's just not possible.

BestBuy exists in some odd overlap of the all of the circles from Dante's Inferno

(I seem to find the first circle when I visit, but I've seen indications of the other circles.)

That's the exact opposite of what sales reps usually say...

I noticed in Future Shop they have finally got a display for BB..................they never did before. They have a cool table set up with a 9900 beside a Playbook, and some flyers and graphics with info. Similar to the "i" table that's been there for years..............
