Nothing will beat a full size laptop for doing REAL work on the road or traveling between jobs or offices, there is no comparison!
And if you have space to hide a tablet, you have space to hide a small laptop or netbook.
Tablets are toys, and nothing more, imho!
Agreed but only because Apple should have made the iPad run full OSX. I think that once you see tablets be able to run a full desktop OS just like your laptop does, size and ease of transport/use will benefit tablets. Think about it... it's half the size of a touchscreen capable laptop... why wouldn't you want that? Heck, put some USB ports on it and you can even program network gear and such with it. What more do you want? Remote Desktop connectivity, wireless network capability, onscreen keyboard, a couple of USB ports for cable, memory drives, and external CDROM (to install software) coupled with a fast SSD hard drive and a full OS... boom! W1nn@R!

Having USB ports and Media Card ports
HDMI out, Projector connectivity, number pad, are all just conveniences I do not want to do without on when traveling especially as more and more hotels are including HDMI ports for me to edit presentation on 46"+ screens in hotel rooms.
    oops...
Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital. \

A full apple/windows os would be great, in that case it would be a good replacement. What are they waiting for!
I"m not against owning one today, even though it's more toy than business as i do like electonic trinkets. I am eagerly awaiting the BB tab to see what it holds.

Apple designed the iPad to be dependent on a Mac even to do software updates. keep that in mind and you can see when Apple will make it full.

And that's why true power users will pick to use something like an HP Slate that will run a full OS instead. It just opens up a world of possibility that otherwise you'd be locked out of with something that doesn't run a full OS. Application usage is the #1 factor for this. There would be no need for an app port to get the apps you wanted to run on the new device. Why wait on the developer? Just install the same one you already have on your PC now. Backwards compatibility is also key as well... if your PC can do it, so will the tablet. Just seems logical that a tablet should be an evolution of the PC, not something dependant upon one.

Yeah it's nice to have a tablet like a Win 7 based one to run apps that have already been developed. On the other hand, it will be harder to make it as intuitive when it comes to touch based gestures. If you've played with the current touch based Windows 7 all-in-ones/laptops, you'd see they're not as touch friendly as say an ipad. I understand the ipad basically comes from osx, but its all made by apple...hardware/software.

Unless HP and Microsoft can pull off the Slate to be really smooth, I can see where the ipad/playbook have an advantage.

But yeah, on the topic of apps, they will be limited at first.
