restore playbook after security wipe, sideloaded apps are gone
Hello..,
just did a security wipe to my pb64.
yesterday I did full backup of the device. well not really "full" since I excluded media data, which is all my pictures and video that I backed up manually.
In total it backup about 9GB of Application Data.
So I restored the Application Data file, finished successfully, restart the pb and surely all apps and games are there.
even the custom folders which I created are restored. very nice..!
EXCEPT..., all sideloaded apps are NOT restored, every single one
is that normal..?
all the big size games, that I've played and some android ported games/apps, the icons are not restored.
makes me wonder.., is it only the icons are not restored? since the application data is restored successfully.
meaning I have "waste space" since the data files are there, but no icons to execute.
any idea guys..?
thanx! - 12-12-2012, 03:48 AM #2
Sideloaded apps will not be restored on a "backup/restore".
BB then, now, forever...yeah, I said it. - 12-12-2012, 03:57 AM

kinda "not supported" ..?

so what about the files/datas of those sideloaded apps..,
they too are excluded from the restore.., and not being backed up at all..? - 12-12-2012, 04:12 AM #4
Idk. Somebody else might have all the right answers. Give it a little time....the troops are coming! Wake up Crackberry Nation!

this sideloaded-hype & android-ported app...,
RIM needs it to boost marketing.., buuuuut.. at the same time may not be a good thing considering 'security issue' which is the number-one key point for blackberry (RIM) devices.
anyway.. that is OOT of my initial concern.
I may end up sideloading again some of the games/apps I want, and closely monitoring the storage space used.
I don't like having so many unused files in the device, especially after a wipe. - 12-12-2012, 11:34 PM #9
You RE-sideloaded them again?
You are sure that they are not scrolled down the screen or off to the right (swipe to see if stuff is there).
I know some folks had troubles when they had a prior beta - that they need to do a DEBRICK and reload the entire OS. - 12-13-2012, 10:10 AM #10
I checked and they were not there. I am going to try another security wipe without updating the os. Then re-sideload them again. If it works, then I will do a software upgrade. It is the only thing I can think of to do. I have upgraded the ddpb installer from the last time I sideloaded the apps and I shall reload the android apps with the latest edition on e-reader

I have started up the Chrome browser with the App Manager plugin. Seems more straight forward.
