Not sure if I should post this in PB or 85xx forum, but I have a PB running 2.0, and was using it just fine with my 9900, however I'm thinking about putting the 9900 up for sale and just using a combo 8520 (running 5.0) and PB, since I use PB more than I use the device.

It connected fine the first day I tried it out, but as soon as I turned bluetooth off (I shut off all connections at night as my BB is my alarm clock) it just won't connect again.

As I try connecting, Playbook just says "haha yeah, right", and my 8520 just says "waiting for Playbook". If I look at the Connections menu on the 8520 as I try this process, it will briefly say "Connected", and then switch back to "On".

I've tried "forgetting"/re-connecting the phone, which was unsuccessful. Restarting both PB and BB works, but it takes 3.5 minutes for PB to restart, and nearly 4.5 minutes for BB to restart.

Is it just a case of the phone being too "old" for the PB? Wondering if anyone out there is successfully connecting with an older model.

Works here, but sometimes i have to restart one of them first.

Lol i posted 2 times in the 85xx "side" of the forum and got 0(!) replies.

Nobody cares about the oldies ^^ lol

Sent from a beautiful but old BB 8520 or a new and shinny PB 2.0

Connects with my 8530 just fine. Don't mind old devices, but another reason is that I'm cheap & hate 2 yr contracts.

Hey as long as it works, who cares? I was rocking an old 8700 (Scrollwheel) last year by choice. Would have kept it too, but with no SD card slot, it filled up too fast :-(

Just update the OS on the 8520.. Delete all prior settings on PlayBook and 8520. Try to keep paired Bluetooth connections to the minimum.

After updating OS on 8520, do a re-connection of Bridge through 'Setup' on the PlayBook.

PS. Make sure 8520 Bridge App is up to date.

I'm looking at buying a cheap Blackberry that will bridge to my Playbook. What is oldest Blackberry that will run BBM?

And can be bridged to my Playbook?

would it work with an 8100?

Can the firmware be upgraded from 4.5.0 to OS5?

I could but don't want to waste my money if it doesn't work. I've looked at the compatible devices on the bridge software and it's listed as compatible. There seems to be a discrepancy it's says that you have to OS 5 but the 8100 is 4.5.0 and that's the highest firmware it will go to.

Buy it and try it? How about...

The 8100 is not supported by OS5, therefore, won't be able to use Bridge.

Just took me going to the 81x0 board and seeing that there are no OS5 stickies.

Had to bridge with my 8520 last month and it worked as expected. Did you try rebooting both devices? (and I mean a 3 finger reboot on the PB as well as a battery pull on the 8520)

    Your options are:

    85x0 (EDGE/GPRS)
    89x0 (EDGE/GPRS)
    96x0 (3G)
    93x0 (3G)
    91x0 (3G)

Those are old (or not so old) and cheap and all support OS5 or OS6. Just keep in mind that EDGE/GPRS is as slow as it can go and will hurt the experience.

I saw that too, but when rang RIM they said the earliest model that supports OS5 is the 8520 and 9300. The lady i spoke to had a look and confirmed the 8100 won't work because the firmware only goes upto 4.5.0 and you need at least OS5 to run Blackberry Bridge.
