The base model will be 16GB and under $500 USD, both confirmed by RIM. Looking at how newly introduced BB phones compared across the border and the current exchange rate, I think the price will be the same in US and Canada. We *might* see a $449 base model, but I don't expect it.
Wasn't there a Crackberry article that said it costs $150 to make a Torch? Seeing as the playbook has better resolution, a larger screen, nearly 4x the processing power, double the storage memory, double the RAM, and a second camera, they'd probably be losing money to sell it at $299! Either way, this is much more powerful than the iPad, which starts at around $500, and doesn't have Apple's suicidal employee conditions for $1 a device in their manufacturing facilities...

Translate "under $500" to $499. Legal but misleading.

If its priced under 500.00, I will buy one. I own an iPad and do like it. I think the playbook has potential, but honestly, the reason I like my iPad is the ease of watching, downloading movies. It's seamless. Will the playbook have an option to rent, watch, stream movies? Or willit be like all bb's and you have to download, convert and upload to be able to watch them?
I know the playbook is designed for business, but having the ability to stream Netflix, Justin tv and others is something I would hate to give up.
