This summer we might be able to get a native BBM solution without BB10. We can port the Android version of BBM!!!

I was thinking the same thing in another thread when folks were crowing about having a more recent version of the Android emulator than most people on Android OS. It is sad. LOL.

The Tragically Hip song "New Orleans is Sinking" just popped into my head..."Black-Berry's sinking man and I don't wanna swim..."

It will probably use features not available to the pb's version of Android!

That is true, they did say that it was for ICS and up.

But they will most likely use the C++ code base from native with android layouts. In that case, it won't work on the PB as it can not do native libraries.

Oh true. I was thinking about the 4.2 runtime but that's for BB10 and by the time Bb10 is released on PlayBook it'll have BBM and everything

And when is that coming out for PB?

They did confirm the android/fruit version is out this summer.

Hope that Pb10 shows up before then huh?

It HAS to. There is no way that BBRY will release it to other platforms and not release it on the PB.

    I'm sticking with that.

They can just say the Playbook no longer fits in their plans, tablets will become obsolete. They will make a big phone and you can use that as your tablet as "you only need one mobile device" blah blah or if you are an enterprise you can support your android and IOS devices with BBM and server services.
This is the vision for the "future" and Playbook does not fit into it so why should they spend their precious R&D dollars to make you happy with your old tablet that won't generate new $$ for them?

Someone needs to start a write-in campaign to make them realize they need to spend the R&D to make you happy or you won't buy the "future" new devices and services.

Only Apple gets it and takes the long view to coddle their old users for a few years until finally the old user buys into the ecosystem with multiple devices. Then " bam!"--Apple has them for years.

You've hit the nail on the head, but I don't think it would make any difference at this point. It was the Playbook they used as the test bed for QNX OS. The part they don't seem to realize is it's us Playbook hardcore Blackberry users that they should be thanking for still being afloat. Unfortunately, that loyalty was simply abused and definitely miss placed. As much as I believe their phones and OS are the most productive tool out there, I think their hole has been dug way too deep.
