The 4 major US carriers will stock both handsets and will be available on contract for $149 and available in store from February 5th.

If you fancy the unlocked versions then you will be looking at the Unlocked Z10 costing $600
and the Unlocked X10 costing $549.

If you are a PlayBook owner then you can expect the BlackBerry 10 update for your device in the first week of February and if you own a Dev Alpha device then you will be updated to the full retail release of BlackBerry 10 on the January 30th launch date.
We shall see if all of this article is true or not......fingers crossed

Will they not need more time to port the BB10 apps to the Tablet? They have been written for a phone!

I believe it. BlackBerry10 has been on the PlayBook for quite a bit of time now. It would be good for us and even better for RIM to release it to PlayBook asap.

I was gonna wait for Sprint since I would get it on the PlayBook but if this is true I'm gonna be all over it lol. I just need to hold them both to decide which one I want. I love my qwerty and have all the real estate that I need on the PlayBook.

No need for porting as the OS is the same, of course the screen size is not and other minor stuff which can be easily changed for playbook so they would be already done before release date.

The update will not be for BB10. It's a minor update to allow video chat between PB and Z10. That's all.

Sounds good but It is what it is. Hopefully we will see a bb10 update for the playbook soon. If not, oh well. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

if the Playbook app is just going to be an enlarged phone app, then maybe. One of the reasons the ipad does well is because the good apps are not just a larger port of the iphone app. I would think that Rim would want to do this right! It may be the same OS but we don't even know how its going to be implemented on the Playbook. Is the Peek and Flow going to look the same? How is it going to look in landscape? Are the Gestures going to be the same? When will the SDK be released? I don't believe it will be first week in Feb. Not a chance!

There is a lot of inaccuracies in the post with some half truths. It wouldve been cool though.

This has never been an issue with Android devices, most apps are coded for phones and run just fine on tablets, which is a big plus for them IMO, I expect the same with BB10.

No. If they did it right, then all the software does is look for a hardware phone. If it doesn't exist, it isn't visible.

This is the biggest complaint with Android tablets, the lack of tablet specific apps!

I don't think that's true unless it's an early internal build. All hands on deck for the phone ...

It's not as simple as that. For starters, it's a different UI paradigm due to the larger screen, different resolution, PPI and default horizontal orientation. There's probably a fair bit of UI work involved to getting things to look right. There are likely also tablet specific UI gestures and screens.

Second, unlike the phones which are starting in Cascades, on the PlayBook, there are migration considerations as data/preferences in AIR apps on the PlayBook need to migrate to the Cascades apps in BlackBerry 10.

Finally, as others have pointed out, the PlayBook only has 1 GB of RAM. In theory, the OS is written with this as a minumum, but there may still be some tuning

I know people think they should be able to just 'stick the phone OS on the PlayBook" but people who have worked in software know that this is never as simple one might think. Compared to general BB10 development, it should be a small effort, but it's an effort.

And I don't think February is true ...
