From what I heard it actually supports codecs so you can instal them.
So it pretty much supports all video/audio.Thanked by:PrimalYeti (04-03-2011)

Does it support H264 High Profile?
Because almost all the 1080p mkv are encoded with this High Profile and for now no tablet can handle it: even the iPad 2 or the Tegra 2 Android tabs...
So I would definitely consider a Playbook if I can play my mkv... Evene if it is through a third party app ... - 04-23-2011, 11:39 AM #9
I am playing Purchased AAC files (M4A) from my Mac on my PlayBook. Also M4V files.
Stupid question, but how is that possible? I thought DRM would prevent that, but it's not. It's as easy as copying the file to the PlayBook and it's working. That's nuts. Seems too easy. - 04-23-2011, 12:14 PM #10
Heaven forbid it be just to easy for users to listen to music they paid for.
It is nice that everything I've thrown at it, it's played without an issue... Would love to see FLAC support in the media player...
I think you're just used to the Apple way of using their applications to load content, I've always found my iPad to be lacking in the area of getting media on and off of it easily. All of the apple sanctioned methods involve iTunes in one way or another... - 04-23-2011, 12:30 PM #11
I found this which lists all the supported codecs.

here is Extra decoders support for Nokia N900 source code maemo.org - package overview for Extra Decoders Support that support AC3 sound and MKV...
N900 have OMAP3430 processor and playbook have OMAP4430 so maybe it will work... Is there any chance to convert it somehow for Playbook?
BTW Here are some AC3 codecs that work on OMAP processor. Is it possible to install that? Ittiam Systems|Texas InstrumentsLast edited by carlos318i; 03-03-2012 at 03:34 AM.

OK. I downloaded this from Blackberry, sometime, somewhere. FWIW, the avi videos that I've transferred to my PB that have 5 or 6 channels of audio, the video will play but the audio will not. You can tell how many channels a video file has in windows by right clicking on the video, select properties, then choose the Details tab.
