Playbook + Motorola Lapdock = Working
Hi everyone,
I am a long year crackberry addict and couldnt resist to show you something cool i put together in the last two Days.
Some of you may not know, but there is a "netbook" accessory for the Motorola Atrix, which is actually a Display+Keyboard+USBHUB+Touchpad+Sound+HDMI and is called LAPDOCK.
You can plug in your Atrix Smartphone and can use it as a netbook with this accessory. These Lapdocks are pretty cheap, around 70 here in germany and are of very high quality.
By using some adapters you actually can use any kind of HDMI Source to use the display e.g. the Raspberry Pi or a Gameconsole. You can also use the Touchpad+Keyboard with the Raspi and also other devices. So why shouldnt it work with our beloved Playbook.
First i tryed the newest 2.1 OS but that didnt work, because of some restrictions from RIM ( It is called BLACKBERRY NOW finally)
There is no USB OTG support for now. After some hours of reading and getting all the information together there seemed only one solution for this problem. Get BB10 !
Actually this was harder then I thought but with the help of the following Site it actually was pretty easy. http://www.dev-f0go.com/2012/10/port...-playbook.html (Zhx goes to f0go)
After installing Dingleberry and flashing the 10.0.0.6 OS and tearing apart the Lapdock connectors I tried to get the USB OTG working but no luck.
So I installed 10.0.9 OS and USB OTG worked like a charme with this build. (If you get a message with "Thank you for Participating" you have to change the time of your Computer and your Playbook to a date in 2012 and flash the OS or else it wont work)
The biggest challenge for me was to get the Lapdock back together and placing the connectors to the right place for connecting the Playbook without extension cables.
I started designing a new slot for the Lapdock, because the distance and the position of the connectors are wrong on the original slot.
After some iterations and design improvements I got everything the way I wanted. (You can see the printed parts in the Video)
Thanks to my Solidoodle (cheap 3D-Printer) I printed the slot and put everything back together. I did have to share this with all of you.
But my biggest goal is to try a BB10 Phone like the Blackberry Z10 with my setup. If this works, this would be my number one accessory for daily life usage.
PLEASE CRACKBERRY GIVE ME BLACKBERRY Z10 PLEASE
Im from germany and the Z10 cant be bought yet.
I looked at the Z10 connectors and it looks like it will fit like the Playbook does and if not Im going to design a new slot and keep everyone uptodate. **** I would actually print some slots for free if it works with the Z10:)
Im sorry im not as hot as deborah Would you do a BlackBerry Bikini photo shoot for a free BB10 phone? Deborah did :) | CrackBerry.com
and cant take on the hottest burger in the world like Henry http://crackberry.com/blackberry-fan...berry-10-phone
but Im willing to give the community something back by printing some slots for their Z10 to use on their Lapdocks:)
Thank you
