Cleaning out paperwork today and I stumbled on a document that came with my PlayBooks. It is "Notice of Update to Safety and Product Information for BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet"

In small type it says: "In order to ensure that the BlackBerry Playbook tablet does not exceed radio frequency exposure standards while the device is transmitting you must maintain the tablet at a distance of 5 mm from your body while the device is transmitting. The long term effects of exceeding radio frequency exposure standards might present a risk of serious harm"

RF exposure is a dose kind of thing. High for short periods or Low for long periods result in the same dose. Enough and it can harm a person. Or, maybe change genetics so offspring are actually improved??

The PlayBook, like most every phone, tablet, etc. is constantly receiving and transmitting. Never seen anyone keep their entire body away from this, or any other, tablet. Most of the time it is either being held in a hand, or laid on a crossed leg.

Is PlayBook the only tablet with this warning?

I don't have any paperwork in front of me but assuming that wifi signals are the same across all devices as well as 3G and LTE, I would say that the PlayBook should be no more hazardous than any other device. I don't know that anything is fully understood and we live in an age where everything can be hazardous in some ways. One week you will see health benefits of some food and the next week they are bashing it for some negative aspect. 5mm is shorter than the length of a sewing needle and considering that we keep cell phones right against our ears during long phone calls, tablets cannot be any worse.

Long term usage of any wireless device which includes cordless phones, GPS devices, cell phones, tablets and more.

Can/could/has cause(ed) Cancer or other illnesses to us all and has done to people already, problem is there is no scientific proof of anyone getting it yet and the reason is that you really think they would want to tell us all for certain, nope as billions of dollars are being made.

How come Cancer has increased ten fold over the past 20 years?
How come babies are being born with all kinds of deformities or illnesses that are unheard of until now or been uncommon for years?

There is more to this and I can tell you that you like me and millions of others in this world take the risk and have been doing so for years due to technology such as the likes of Satellites, microwave ovens, TV's and many more appliances.

How can anyone become immune, move to mars or Saturn or pluto or Jupiter or anywhere but this planet and make sure no one follows you as you may become a victim of inter-galatical espionage.

I wouldn't think it's different for any other tablet it's just that Blackberry are covering themselves - 5mm or 3/16" is negligible.

Life expectancy has increased over those same 20 years. The longer you live the more likely you will develop a disease.

    Our diet has changed.

These are just a couple of reasons. I am not disputing anything. I just see the same arguments attached to so many causes.
The increase in cancer and birth defects can't be related to everything that is different in the last 20 years. Cell phones, non-organic food, higher fuel prices...

You yet again eh dog. You wait all these years to now tell me not to make prolonged use of radio waves and that I'm dying!!!!!

Ok I'll forgive you on the second bit cause secretly I realised from a young age that all humans die. However on the first part there is no forgiveness whatsoever. I have wandered through life with a radio of one form or another strapped to my head, surrounded by radar equipment, nuclear devices and you wait until now to tell me it's been dangerous!!!!!!!!!!

Well forgive me if I accidentally bomb your kennel you heartless currently you.

This is simply not true! Spreading this kind of FUD doesn't help anyone. There has been an increase (but it has not even doubled in 20Y). We life longer and highest incidence is on people over 65. Several behavioral risk factors are well known: Eat healthy, exercise and don't smoke... and you will greatly improve your odds.

Lol - nope, not me. Your sense of humor has made me laugh a lot (unless you were serious, then I swear, not a giggle out of me). I just believe that life is too short and precious to waste it on negative emotions. That said, I'm a fan of my own Amaretto and it's late afternoon here in Georgia. It's been a beautiful day - definitely worth toasting.

If I were to take a guess, I would say that all things stated here are a contributing factor.

Yup. As I recall, one of their Presidents was Carter. Commanded a nuclear sub on, well, under the Black Sea. Talk about detrimental waves - no, not the watery kind - the radioactive kind!
