Hold down your power button, add a drop of water to the top part of the screen swipe down the up. Kick it a few times. add water to the left side swipe right, if this doesnt work buy a promising Android

Hold the power button for 10 seconds or so. Then press it again (might have to hold it a few seconds again) and it should power back on.

Lol @latingeo.
Try connecting it to a PC and launching Desktop Manager, see if it lets you update it. You might have corrupted your OS I suppose.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | Then do a hard restart: power, volume up, volume down buttons simultaneously for 10 or so seconds.
The OS is rock solid but buggy apps can make buggy requests. A mortgage calculator app had mine acting weird once.

Before wiping also try:
Press and HOLD all three keys for about 10 - 20 seconds: PowerOn, VolUp and VolDown

Mine did the same when I downloaded a buggy photo app called Mybestshot ..............took a couple of pics and it froze up. I tried all of the above, what worked was, I held the volume-up button for 15 seconds until a green light appeared then hit the power button and it rebooted. All seems well now .........deleted app !!!
I know old thread but I'm sure there will be others looking for a solution somewhere down the road,
Cheers, Judd

If you hold the power button down solidly for 10s, the PlayBook will shut off, no questions.
If you hold it for less, it may be stuck with the screen off but not entirely powered off.
If you've mostly discharged the battery, it may not power on again properly at this point, resulting the red light and no further activity. Put it on the charger for an hour and try again.
Powering up normally, if the battery is charged beyond the minimum, requires only a brief power button press. After that, be patient. You'll see the red light in a few seconds, and then it goes off again and you keep waiting. A while later you'll see the boot screen (BlackBerry logo) and then you're set.
If you keep throwing it on the charger and taking it off again, you'll "confuse" it and may need to be even more patient.
Most problems with this stuff result from people not sticking to the basics (trying weird combinations of keys) and not being patient.
(Note: the three-button power+volumeUp+volumeDown combination works too... but it resets the device. Hold all three down for 4s and it should be booting itself up again shortly after, if it's charged. Just... be patient! Total boot time is just over 2 minutes usually.)

Ditto on the power suggestion. I had a similar experience with my pb, & already knew from my bold that with the battery low (but not bottomed out), the device doesn't complete start up (even though in this instance the battery meter was showing as having some charge before the shut-down). Charge it, restart it, no worries I bet (aside from the app that froze it in the first place).

That's why there's a difference between user mode application and system software. OS 2.0 beta can die easily due to Android player, but release OS should never do that.
OP, if the PB is under warranty, just send it back to RIM for repair or get a replacement from a store (if store return policy applies).
It is not uncommon to have electronic device face sudden death, but should be rare.
