I have seen lots of posts about playbooks not charging which was my situation for awhile. I used various methods I found online to finally get it to boot. However, it is to the point now that I can get it to work perfectly fine plugged into the charger and instantly dies when unplugged.

Once it's unplugged I can't even get a red light by using the (20 sec power/+) method. It's just dead. One time I plugged it in and the red light instantly came on, then red "charging" graphic, then green light and then it booted right up on it's own. A 2nd time plugging it in had the red light come on, then the yellow blinking lights for awhile, then the green light then I have to push the power button to get it to boot.

I have kept it charging with the AC adapter it came with for 24 hours and it says it's at 100% charge when plugged in every time it's on. Obviously this is not the case considering it dies instantly after being unplugged and has to go through the light sequence boot up again when plugged in again.

So basically it works perfect while plugged in, and completely unusable not plugged in. I haven't seen this exact issue posted anywhere else so hopefully someone as a suggestion for me. It seems to me the charging circuit is dead, but from what I've read if that was the case even if it was plugged in it shouldn't boot. I could be mistaken though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a hardware failure. The Playbook seems to be getting correct voltage (shows 100% charge) but not enough amperage to operate. Best guess is the battery is done. Sorry.

How old? Warranty length can vary by country or in Europe

The PB has a one year warranty to the original purchaser. It also has 90 free Tech support. I do not know how Rim deals with "quasi-tech support v. warranty"

    Thanks for the responses.

It has a 1 year warranty that just conveniently ran out a week ago on the 18th. This problem started literally a few days after that. I've never had to use a warranty for something before, how stingy are they about the exact date?

Well if the battery is completely dead there must be a tech store or someone local that could have the knowledge to replace the battery I would think. It shouldn't be that hard right?

In some cases they have been quite generous with the warranty period. You can call and see.

As for why it fails, it could be the charging circuit and not just the battery - so you might be investing in the wrong part or parts.
