I find in my situation, after a gentle wiggle on the usb connector on the computer, the PB connects. Also switching usb ports has worked. I've had this happen when using the same cable with my phone also. For that reason I'll try another cable and see if it works any better. One computer is running Vista, the other is XP, and always latest ed. of DM.

- I see this come up frequently, with different methods or advice. We probably need to be very specific in the status of the PB and computer and steps taken. I've been wanting to experiment with this since I've had recognition issues also.
- PB, May build, 64g, latest official update.
- Laptop, Dell XPS running updated Vista
1st method
1- Laptop up and running
2- PB on, wifi on
3- Opened up DMand checked for latest update
4- Connected PB using my 9930 OEM USB cable and waited
5- 2 min later PB was recognized
6- Performed backup, wifi still on
7- Shut down DM and disconnected PB
2nd method
1-Same as above
2- PB on, wifi on
3-DM opened and running
4- Connected PB with OEM PB USB cable
5-Immediate recognition
6- Skipped backup
7- Same
3rd method
1-Same
2- PB on, wifi off
3- DM opened and running
4- PB connected using 9930 OEM USB cable, waited
5- Almost 2.5min before recognition
6- BU skipped
7- Same
4th method
1-Same
2- PB on, wifi off
3- DM opened
4- Connected PB using PB OEM USB cable
5- Immediate recognition
6- BU skipped
7- DM closed, PB disconnected
5th Method
1-Same as all above
2- PB on, wifi on
3- DM not on
4- Connected using 9930 OEM USB cable, waited
5- 2+min before recognized as drive Z, Device Manager icon pops up in tool bar
6- Opened DM, immediate recognize and connection
7- BU skipped, DM closed, PB disconnected
Method 6
1-Same as all above
2- PB on, wifi on
3- DM not on
4- Connected using PB OEM USB cable
5- Immediate recognition as drive Z, Device Manager icon pops up in tool bar
6- Opened DM, PB recognized and connected, no delay
7- BU skipped, DM closed, PB disconnected
Two more methods were performed same as the latter two except wifi off, same results respectively.
The summary with my set up was:
1- No difference if wifi was on or off with my recognition speeds
2- No difference if DM was opened and running or not to computer or DM recognition
speeds
3- The only difference I noted was longer recognition when using my 9930 usb cable.
I don't know the difference in the two cables, but both are BB OEM and the phone cable
is larger diameter.
Sorry for the long post, and I know this seems obsessive, but I was curious and if it helps anyone, then it was worth it01-23-12 12:16 AMLike 0 - I see this come up frequently, with different methods or advice. Thats what i was referring to, inconsistent experiences. I have no problem connecting to DM with wifi and BT on. Today I tried it with three other PBs at work, same result, no problems connecting with wifi and BT on. Go figure.01-23-12 09:45 PMLike 0
