BlackBerry PlayBook Updates Could Come 'Every Two Weeks' | News & Opinion | PCMag.com

ORLANDO—The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will get updates at the startlingly fast pace of up to "every two weeks," RIM vice president of software Alan Panezic said at the BlackBerry World conference today.
"If we need to, we'll be cranking new capabilities for users every two weeks," he said.
Those frequent updates may involve major features or apps. The update coming tonight, version 1.0.3, will enable video chat between PlayBooks, add the new Facebook app, enable BlackBerry Messenger to work over BlackBerry Bridge, and "make the browser ... much more compatible with the entire Web," Panezic said.

2 weeks is pretty aggressive. I'd expect this to settle in to a once-a-month sort of thing.

a bi-weekly update is great! RIM is showing they are serious about making the playbook a serious competitor in the tablet market.

The true gem of QNX and the real ace up RIM's sleeve is that it is advanced in terms of being future ready and future proof...

QNX will always be ahead of consumer software demands giving RIM the luxury of only having to build software on top of the OS..

Ios,Android and Windows phone 7 will require engineering of the OS to stay up to date as far as consumer software demands are concerned....

QNX is designed for the most cutting edge, state of the art software on the planet...

Expect a very rapid evolution of the QNX platform on Blackberry devices...The platform will evolve at a pace that is faster then that of ios, Android and Windows phone 7...

The rate of the platform evolving will increase even more rapidly as core functions are solidified!

As well expect to see the SDK's to become very advanced and powerful as the platform grows, in order to take advantage of the OS core advanced nature of the os and exploit it's architecture....with that very advanced protocols, libraries etc

QNX's capabilities are much more advanced then any current consumer software demand....So in reality...RIM will be working with an OS that is future ready due to it's architecture revolving around supporting the state of the art in industrial , aero space environments etc......These environments are at times many years ahead of what we have access to as consumers...In fact what becomes developed at this level trickles down to the consumer level years later....

We are currently experiencing QNX in its infancy....expect RIM to switch on current dormant features of the os it self in the future....

Expect nothing less then a very rapid pace of development!

Remember as well...What the general public finds cutting edge with ios and Android.....QNX was supporting this 15+ years ago in terms of relative hardware and software...(Military, aero-space etc that QNX supported 15+ years ago is what we have access to now as consumers in relative terms)...Think about that for a second...

The reality that RIM will be the leader in terms of platform evolution and growth is going to be a tough pill for the ios and Android crowd to swallow... But the truth hurts at times

QNX is currently undergoing a strong software engineer recruitment as well.....

Very rapid evolution is certain! we have a very exciting evolution of the PB over the next year and beyond!!
