Default Playbook browser not detecting all swipe gestures?

I picked up a 16Gb Playbook for my wife on Friday in the sale. I've always liked the device. I'm seeing strange things happening in the browser. Say I'm reading BBC's news site. If I swipe down the height of the display to scroll, it only scrolls say 10 pixels. This happens on a lot of sites. It's almost like it can't process all of the swipe events. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks

I've tried different gestures attempting to mimic the scrolling behavior you described. The only way I can get the 10 pixel movement is to stab at the screen and that is literally hit and miss. Try following through on your scroll input. Better yet, learn to bezel scroll. The scrolling action on the PB is beautifully fluid.

Press and hold PowerOn for 10-15 seconds to reboot.

Press and HOLD all three keys for about 10 - 20 seconds: PowerOn, VolUp and VolDown

    See if either helps.

The PlayBook is very fluid, if swiping is a challenge and not working properly from the start you may have a defective PlayBook. Return it and get a new one, but test in the store before you leave

You may simply be swiping too fast for that site. I believe I've seen on sites with loads of Flash ads that I have to swipe more slowly and deliberately, rather than just a "quick flick", or it doesn't keep up. Try a firm stab at the top, then move your finger down the whole screen over the course of about one second. If it doesn't keep up, it's likely not what I'm talking about here.

If it's only in the browser, however, I'd still blame the site you're on... try disabling Flash and Javascript in the browser settings and reload the page, then compare again.

Most common solutions to most problems I've been seeing are: 1. Reset the device 2. Disable Java and/or Flash and 3. Return the device for a new one. Just pointing out the obvious.

The OP's problem is very rare. The only one of its kind that I have seen. Therefore, there is no "most common" solution to his most uncommon problem. However, as normal restarts fix 99.9% of problems, that option is a good place to start. That said, the OP might just not be following through on his swipes causing the scroll to stop dead in its tracks as the swipe prompt properly directs the screen to do. I can mimic the described scroll action by making short little stab inputs.

I've been well over 1,000 sites since May, and have NOT experienced that problem once. If swiping is a challenge its a good possibility that the OP's PlayBook is defective. I say take a trip back to the store and get a new one

I've narrowed it down to a javascript issue. The Playbook's browser (at least on mine and a friend's) cannot handle this page.

BBC News - New clashes in Cairo's Tahrir Square

Load the page, then scroll up and down. On my Playbook, the browser's CPU usage is so high it's missing swipe events.

Now turn off javascript, reload the page and scroll. Smooth!

Glad you figured it out. Wish I had the option of disabling Javascript on my iFad but that particular page seems to work perfectly fine without having to do so. Guess I lucked out.

Unfortunately it's not a workable solution. My iPad2 can easily handle the page; it has lower specs, less memory and they're both webkit browsers. So I can't understand why the Playbook struggles, unless it's a really old version of Webkit.

It will be fixed in an update. Somerimes if I have more then one tab open I have to open each tab to get response from the one that wasn't after doing so and going back to the page.

Edit: I just went to the link. Java script on, flash on and it scrolls perfect for me. I'm tethering to my phone, not bridge.

Took about 6 tries to type the url correctly but it loaded and I can scroll fine (using wifi). Text, map and aerial photo. Up and down and back again. I did get a bit of checkerboarding when it first loaded and I tried scrolling down but now its fine. Oh, right both Flash and Java were on.

Maybe overreacting - with reboots and all

How are you holding the playbook?
Took me a while to discover that one of my fingers was placed on the touch sensitive bezel area - redefining it to a two finger swipe instead of a one finger swipe. Caused weird erratic behaviour that went away when I held it differently lol.

I'm not holding it - it's sitting on the table or on my lap. I've reproduced the same problem on a friend's Playbook on a different WiFi network.
