PB wouldn't power up this morning
Scary experience this morning. I charged my PB overnight as usual; this morning, I saw it was at 100% and moved to put it in standby mode. I turned it off by mistake and could not get it to power on for nearly 30 minutes. Tried the power button, tried the 3-button combo, tried plugging and unplugging, tried to connect it to my laptop; no results.
I kept trying the various methods when I suddenly saw the red LED flash for a second and disappear, then the PB powered up as normal. However, when it powered up, I noticed that the battery level was now 90% even though it had not been on??
Two questions: 1) What happened? Anybody else have this experience? 2) My red LED never comes on that I have noticed; the only indication I ever have that the PB is charging is when I tap the battery icon. Is the LED supposed to glow/change colors when charging/fully charged?
Finally, what is with this power button? I've read that on some models the button is not quite as difficult to press; has BB modified the design on more recent builds? - 05-09-2012, 01:42 AM #2
pronomad: sounds like a freak accident. nothing to worry about, just hope it doesn't happen again.
I'M GOING TO STEAL YOUR THREAD, I NEED HELP!!
Situation: Friend's playbook won't turn on. I tried plugging into the wall using the standard playbook charger, a bb phone charger, and usb
When I plug it into a PC, it goes red, followed by 5 blinking white lights, then nothing.
When i plug into a wall outlet, it turns red then nothing. If I unplug from the wall during the red, i get the same 5 blinking white lights.
What can I do? Still under warranty, but it'd be nice to fix it for my friend without having to send this back to RIM!
tried "stack charging" as suggested in another thread. 2 mins charge, 2 mins off charge. not working. did that person just make it up? - 05-09-2012, 08:39 AM #3
One thing to try - move it to a dark room or closet and make sure that it really is OFF - no gray screen but absolutely black (OFF).
Then leave it on the charger for a few hours. Then try power it on. Press the power on button and leave it for a minute. It does not always immediately blink that red led.
Stack charge is REAL.
Rim might have suggestions
The PB has a one year warranty to the original purchaser. It also has 90 free Tech support. I do not know how Rim deals with "quasi-tech support v. warranty"

For "what happened", read this: http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...ml#post7259975 Very likely you didn't really manage to turn it off (that's pretty much certain, given the drop in battery) but had it "stuck" still on. When that occurs, it basically won't respond to anything, except the 10s power-button press or the reset technique described in that post.
For the red LED, it should work if you have the device off when you plug it into the charger. The LED is not used when it's already turned on when you start charging.Battery Guru for BB10 tracks voltage, power, battery health. (Also on the PlayBook.) White Noise helps you sleep or concentrate.

My power button is flush. It doesn't have any feedback to it but I just press it and let go. A few seconds later the LED flashes on and a few seconds later the words come on. I think sometimes people want to hold the power button instead of just pushing it.
Have you tried using the end of something to see if you can push the button any further than with a finger?Sent from me using my fingers. Be pantless in 5K. Febreze - for more than smells.

I guess there are different designs. My power button is raised slightly higher than the middle Play/Pause button. It is still small, but not difficult to use by any means when the device is naked. It isn't too bad when in the Journal Case either, but is a bit more difficult.

yah, unfortunately i have tried using something and it still didn't work. i used my finger nail and a pen.
RIM needs to provide a software/firmware update so that people can turn on the playbook using the other buttons. perhaps the two volume keys or if they're afraid of accidents, one volume and mute key at the same time.Last edited by jasperlin; 05-09-2012 at 03:18 PM.

My PlayBook is dead!!!!!!!!!!! Plz help..
- 05-10-2012, 02:28 AM #12
I get a long red flash when I connect the PB Charger or the USB and then nothing.. 10s power button doesn't help.. I've even kept it on charge for hours.. The screen is not grey.
I had this problem before with 5 blinking amber light.. that meant the battery was dead and needed 45 mins of charging before power on. The last time it worked, but this time around there is no Amber blinking. Just one long Red flash. - 05-10-2012, 02:38 AM #13

Okay finally some progress.. The Amber blinking lights have returned from the Long Red flash... This means that the PB does not have enough power to charge.. and will need to be set on charging for atleast 45 mins before a power on.

The Desktop Manager has finally recognized the PB and gave me an the Update option. It's updating now, and hopefully should be up and running soon!
