I'm gonna go ahead and say 4k is generous. I'm gonna sound like a troll and put my money on there being 500 apps at launch. Remember that developers think RIM stuff is ancient and won't sell, so why would they want to develop?
I think 4000 apps is a huge number to start. Remember the iPad has been out for over a year and only 40,000 of those apps are iPad specific, the rest are iPhone apps---many of which do not run properly in the iPad due to the different screen aspect ratios. (16:9 iphone vs 4:3 ipad)
Keep in mind that 40,000 is built by developers that have already experienced developing for iOS for a few years and with the iOS SDK already available since 2008.
I have almost 15k posts.... only about 5k of those are RIM hate ones. Should I post a link to my profile page?
On a serious note... why don't we all just wait and see how many apps the PB has on release. From the recent videos on the PB, AppWorld isn't layed out in such a way to show the total amount of apps available. The Apple AppStore is the same way and it sucks if you ask me. It's almost impossible to find something unless it's popular or unless you specifically know what to search for. Nobody wrote 20k worth of apps in just a couple of months specifically for the PB. lol
If you go to appworld and do a search for PlayBook, it only comes up with about 130 apps. I don't know if that only looks for apps with PlayBook in the name or anything made for the PB, but that's a bit more realistic than 20,000.
Hmmm...taken at look at the verbiage next to your picture??
"Carrier: I hate RIM/Carrier VPL Service Books!!! | Truncated Emails... really RIM... really? | KB13677 is BS!"
Because of that "static" info on every post, it seems to me that EVERY post you make, makes it plain you hate RIM. (Not that I'm a fan)
Darn it!... I forgot about that. Cool, so I guess I can inflate my numbers too.
[I hope you guys get the fact that these two posts are jokes...]
Honestly, who cares how many apps you'll have at launch. If it's a good platform, the developers will increase that number quickly. That's what you should be worried about more.

This seems like the right time for the BGR blackberry rapper to lay one down for us! Right here...right now
I can see 20000 PB apps developed rapidly after launch...just not at launch...although there will be a plethora available...everyone should just do a happy dance!
I for one could care less for apps in general...however the concept and delivery of super apps are compelling!
