I've gotten that a few times when I'm out and about. I usually just say "No, it's a BlackBerry" (or BlackBerry PlayBook) and leave it at that. I'm with my two young kids (both of whom have a Kindle Fire) at a mall right now, and the three of us are on a bench, working our tabs. Not that I care (okay, I do, a little), but I'm wondering how many people assume I'm using a Kindle Fire, too. Anyone else get this out in public, regardless of whether you care?

I don't get that up here, but BlackBerrys are pretty well recognized in Canada, and I suspect there aren't more than a dozen Fires in the whole country... the thing's pretty useless outside of the US, isn't it?

One of the reasons many have purchased PB over others as there aren't many alternatives (Kobo Vox is a joke) at the current price range.

I don't see anyone who'd want it. I bought it and returned it for the Playbook.

Kindle Fire has speakers pointing towards the ground. No volume buttons. It lags.

It's a great device for basic needs, but if you need power and a way to do many things, then it isn't a good device for you.

I haven't gotten that kind of response yet. People who see me with my Play Book would ask me what kind of tablet it is. My wife has a Kindle fire and I compared both side by side. The BB is a little bigger. Speaker are much better on my BB and best of all the BB has bridging. While on vacation, there were locations that did not have WiFi, I was able to use my BB and my wife's kindle, well thats another story.

What possesses parents to take their children to the mail and basically not keep a watchful eye on them. "Sorry officier but I was watching the movie Sperm Bath and did not notice any oddly behaving people near my children because I was too engrossed in the movie's plot and that ever sexy -insert actor's name here- as he was humping that cute sixteen year of cheerleader living next door. No officer this is no a confession about watching child pornography in a public place in the proximity of children."

The Kindle Fire is a fine second rate reader, Nook is better. PlayBook is a true tablet that is multi tasking Beast that works with a Handheld Monster known as a Bold. How can anyone talk about kindle or other single minded device and compare it to the PlayBook is beyond me. Our young people have a lot to learn between toys and devices.

No questions like that, but one kid at school saw me using it and said "That's so cool! What is that?" I was kind of surprised because that girl isn't usually interested in video games. I responded "NOVA 2".
Only after she left did I realize she was talking about the Playbook...

Well they both are 7 inch tablets and they are both built by the same company (Quanta Computer) so there is bound to be some design similarities. Basically the Kindle Fire is a lower spec'ed PlayBook when you really think about it.

I think its sad that you take your kids out only to sit on a bench in the mall and play on a tablet.

I got the "Oh is that a little Kindle reader?" from my sister-in-law at Christmas to which I quickly replied "no, BlackBerry PlayBook" and she had a blank look, turned away to everyone else and said "more pie anyone?". But last time I was asked if it was a Kindle and I said BB PB, the guy said "oh, I have an iPad at home" to which I replied "oh, that's too bad!" and walked away.
