    Default newbie with connection problems

Hi all. I have just bought a playbook and updated it to the latest 2.0 operating system. I have installed Blackberry device manager and when it opens the screen resolution changes on my windows 64 bit laptop. It will not recognise my playbook via usb so I cannot transfer files to my Playbook. When I try to use wi-fi sometimes it sees the Playbook sometimes not. It is very frustrating.
I have contacted Blackberry and spent an hour with support but to no avail. Can anyone suggest any help please.

    Let's start with the basic.

On your playbook, go to settings / Storage & Settings and make sure that
    1. USB Connection is set to connect to windows
    2. File Sharing is ON

Also check for any message in Windows Event viewer,
and try another USB port on your PC

Just to be clear, BlackBerry Device Manager and BlackBerry Desktop Manager are two separate and distinct programs. The Desktop Manager is what most people will use to transfer files to their PlayBook. OP, you mentioned installing the Device Manager. Have you installed Desktop Manager?

Yes. sorry it is Desktop Manager that I am having the trouble with. As I posted, when I open it the program causes my screen resolution to change and the screen re sizes and looks like the pc is in safe mode. I have done all the steps mentioned by the previous poster but to no avail. I have updated Java as some people have suggested but still no joy. I love my Playbook but this connection problem is driving me up the wall.

UNinstall it, see if you can clean the Registry of all info for it and then try REinstalling it.
