Ive been bringing the playbook at the office for a week now and since it received a lot of attention from co-workers.One of them had a ipad 2 and approched me with the bad reviews it had.I let him try it out and judge it from himself and was amazed by it.I wasnt't expecting this kind of reaction but he told me that the 7 inch size really impressed him and might get one too.

I had won a Ipad 1 at work and some people didn't understand why I traded it away for the playbook.A 2 min demo of need for speed was able to convince them that the Ipad wasn't the only tablet around anymore.I was fair and did admit that we need to get more apps but I sure did open some eyes to folks that didn't know what research in motion is all about

Since then I had a few people that started to notice the playbook more and more by viewing ads on tv.The overall reaction I got from people has been incredible and I think that some folks got surprised and weren't expecting such a solid device.

With all the negative stuff on the web and on this board,I feel it's important to point out the good work Rim has done with this thing.Just get native e-mail out and the android player and there in business.

I walked into my mothers house one day and she said whats that? I say "Its a PlayBook" She asks how much? i say "roughly $550" She gasps and says " why didnt you get an ipad?!" I sighed and said the ipad was just a giant ipod touch, OS has been the same for years (considering the OG iphone/ipod), and that my PlayBook can do just as much as an ipad without the mention of apps and the OS is something new and refreshing, but of course it fell on deaf ears cause she like so many others believe that Apple are the pioneers of innovation. OS 5 is MAGICAL they say, eh no seems as if they are taking notes from the competition with their new notifications and imessage.

Apple = brainwashing / one positive thing about Apple is that at the going rate for new i-stuff every 6 months at the outrageous prices, the US will be out of debt in no time due to brainwashed, consumer spending. lol

Apple is more innovative, well everyone lately but RIM has been innovative, so give your mother some credit

I had my playbook at work last week and my colleagues asked why I didn't get an Ipad, so I let them play with it a bit. Needless to say, they were all very impressed. One IT guy watched a video on it and couldn't believe the resolution, he kept going "this is the best resolution on a tablet", after that there was no need to justify my choice

to be fair to apple they werent the first ones to make a tablet but they were the first ones to make one that sells and gets recognised by everyone. similar to the iphone, we can hate it all we want, but if you read any phone review these days 99.99% of the time they'll compare some feature to one on an iphone

i keep getting asked where i got my "small ipad", tell them its a blackberry and the usual reply is "dont they only make the phones with keyboards?". Give them a few minutes with the pb though and ive not had a person yet who wasnt impressed. Even the ipad owners have been impressed by it (one of em even went as far as to say they might swap their ipad 1 for a pb instead of the ipad 2 they were planning on )

hopefully things will improve with the adverts doing the rounds now, its getting quite a push on tv here in the uk at the moment and the tech stores that have it are giving it front page space on their websites

(and no im not an apple fanboy, i love my playbook and my bb, i just think apple deserve a little bit of credit for their efforts )

yep, even if you do have to shove a playbook under their nose and try to convince them their apple loving religion is not the only way

Then people actually use a PB for more than 30 minutes and it's shortcomings turn them away.

The bottom line is that in its current iteration, the PB is a $500 web browser and media player. No thanks.

You have to admit though this is somewhat true. The playbook is very good in its first setting with people, look at can play 3 videos at once (not sure why you would want to do that but I digress) and the screen is beautiful, but even hardcore BB people admit that after some time with it it loses its luster. Even though is has the full web, the lack of app kill it.

People bashed the ipad at first as consumption device and you could not create on it. Well pages, numbers (I know excel is better), keynote, garageband, imovie, not to mention photoshop, brushes etc. now make this a device that you can create on. You just (for the most part) cant do this with a PB yet and its a killer.

Lets put it this way. At my repair shop I see all types of users. Mac, Pc, and Linux.

The PC users usually know more of how to use the computer and usually are more intelligent. I really never have a conversation outside of the cult whan talking to mac users. PC users love their porn and viruses and the ability to do anything they want on the dominating platform. Software is plentiful. And I can upgrade the system beyond ram and hd. But we get lots of viruses.

Most Mac users are brainwashed twits that thing they are superior because they bought an overpriced laptop in a desktop case (imac). "But Steve Jobs said..., Oh the ipad2 is out so the ipad 1 is now a device with the plague, must have what the cult says I must have."
Bottom line, mac users are a bunch of followers. Most couldn't change a lightbulb. How many of you desktop imac owners have realized that your computer is built from slower laptop components and not a desktop cpu, ram, etc... And you paid over double for a crappy OS on laptop hardware. You got robbed. Your i5-i7 is from a lappy. And apple will never come out and tell you either. And the mac OS has been tested upwards of 20-30% slower running the same apps (tf2, photoshop, etc.) than windows 7 on the same hardware (bootcamp). I haven't touched a mac to use since that testing. I only use our shop mac to run win 7 and to fix other broken macs

Linux users are just weird. Really weird. We will leave it at that. Most smell. Bad.

its all about what you use it for at the end of the day, everyone's different... I use the pb for web browsing and when im out and about, having flash and 7" form factor makes it ideal for that role.

lets face it, i could go spend my 400 quid on an ipod/ipad, but for what im using the device for the pb is actually, dare i say it, better

ipads have their place, but its too big for my pocket wherever it is

i've had my playbook since day 1 and absolutely love it, but i have to say that if the app situation doesn't improve dramatically, the next tablet i buy wont be a playbook. its been over 2 months and we are still waiting for descent apps. the flash on playbook is sweet, but i don't believe its enough to keep every RIM fan loyal. I absolutely love my blackberries, but the lack of good apps even has me considering changing loyalty. seems like a lot of the companies i do business with have android and iphone apps but no blackberry apps. its a little frustrating at the end of the day

yea, better use phone or tablet from a company that reinvented copy/paste one year after their product was on the market.

Actually, that $500 fully replaced a lot of functionality I had in my laptop while in Houston this past weekend. I get a frantic call from my client that they cannot access a secured folder that they have rights to, so I dash down the street to Starbuck's, connect to wifi, remote into their server to verify things, then get told it was "user error". Okay, you didn't expect that part, I know.

While already logged on, I take care of a few things, while having a separate browser window open to look up a few things while music played in my music player app.

Could I have done the same with an iPad? Very probable. However, it was form fitting and easy to hold while controlling the screen, and the time charged for the whole thing paid for the PB entirely. Time spent in total: 30 minutes (granted it included browsing for research on an ongoing project FOR them).

    Story over....going back to work.
