    Thanks for sharing the Android Runtime trick! There should definitely be an app to do this. I wonder if the tools are available. One thing I think still sucks is that even if you have no android apps, the runtime still runs after a reboot, but once you foreclose I'm assuming it wouldn't come back if you don't have any android apps to run
    I've been saying this for a long time. RIM has to add an option to the settings that would say something like:

    - Disable Android runtime/app support

    Or better

    - Do not start Android runtime when the system starts.

    Yep rebooting also reactivates the Android runtime. Opening an Android app also reactivates it. Now I know the OS has pretty decent memory management. Perhaps after detecting enough memory it'll restart the Android runtime again? I haven't tried that out but it'd make for a fun little experiment.
