hello,
is there any way i can connect my playbook to an old tv?
the old tv is using a red, yellow, white connector
and this methid is doing a digital to analog?

Perhaps the Atlona AT-HD530 HDMI/DVI to Composite and S-Video Down-Converter addresses your requirements.

HDMI to 3-RCA Male Audio Video Component Cable For HDTV: Amazon.ca: Electronics
add
http://www.amazon.ca/GOLD-HDMI-Type-...d_rhf_se_shvl3
will that one work?
it wont' dmg the playbook? - 11-20-2011, 03:25 PM #4
They look fine. Just be sure to read any warnings about powering down both input and output devices before connecting the cables unless your devices allow hot-plugging. The BlackBerry PlayBook seems to allow hot-plugging but I take no responsibility for any act you perform.

I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but the cable shown does not work. (There's a reason only the ends are shown... it's called false or at least misleading or incomplete advertising). As you stated, red, yellow and white which are the color connections on your TV are important color references. Red and white are stereo audio and the yellow is analogue video at 480 lines. The cable end (RCA's) shown in the Amazon item is a format of video only broken down for a different video color separated input (somewhat popular quite a few years ago) on some "higher quality" older projection TVs and monitors.
I would honestly bet it will not work, but for $4, you could try and let CB addicts know...
The same issue exists for DVI out (say on a digital video card) to analogue TV inputs. There are a few converter boxes sold (NOT a digital to analogue cable converter) but they range from about $120 and up from what I've seen... Not a lot of independent electronics shops carry these, but some shop wizards know about them. You'd have to get one ordered, and try it.
I wish you luck, but I'm guessing you'll be parting with a fair bit of $ and parting with a bit more for a new TV/Monitor is not a bad idea when they are already are not that expensive unless your looking at a huge panel.Last edited by jtvoxboi; 11-20-2011 at 05:35 PM.
Two ears, one mouth, so I spend most of my time listening... and learning... silence is golden...
...but it can create a dangerous mind...

A simple cable will not convert a digital hdmi signal to analog TV. I just got one of these yesterday. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0047PDBP0/ref=oh_o06_s00_i02_details I have yet to hook it up and see if it works. Maybe later tonight.

Well, so far the results are not promising. Hooked up everything but the Playbook did not connect. It was a new HDMI cable as well so I don't know if that was the problem, but I doubt it. Anyhow, I've asked my son to try the cable on his HDTV with his Viewsonic android tab.
