The charger that came with it worked fine for my gf's PB. It was at about 30% when we turned it on and after about 3 hours of charging it was at 100%. This is while I was playing with it the whole time last night.

I'm in the same boat, in fact I have somewhat of the opposite issue. My Playbook on the supplied wall charger went from 60% to 100% within a half hour, and after playing a 40min video on it running on batteries it still says 100% Restart didn't change it either.
Come to think of it, my iPhone and iPad2 will turn on, if off, when you plug the charger into it. You can then turn these device off and they will still charge.
Sounds to me the $70 accessory charger will be much better but that is a lot of money for a charger!
Glad I found this thread as I was ready to return my PB and swap it out for another unit in case there was an issue with the battery. I could not get mine charged any higher than 98% but, it was off all last night and I did not read the manual. So after pluggin it in today while on it hit 100%. Clearly there are some issue with the power management software that will need to be addressed. I do not think it is related to the type of charger as I am using the one that came with the PB. Still happy with the device, love that screen!
Mine maxs out at 99%, started charging at 9am this morning and took it off at 4:30pm. Max it hit was 99%, with hard reset it went to 98%. I have never seen it hit 100% yet.
I had this issue when I originally purchased in April. I was going to exchange it thinking it was defective. I didn't bother to charge it for two days and it was completely dead. The day before I was going in to exchange it, I charged it so that it would be faster for the store to verify the problem. When I woke up and grabbed it to take it to the store it was at 100% and I haven't had an issue since.
This is a known issue and is addressed in a knowledge base article published by Research In Motion. Simply let the tablet discharge until it shuts itself off completely, not merely standby mode; then recharge the tablet fully and do not use it while charging. Repeat the preceding sequence two or three times, as necessary, to retrain the battery to charge to 100% consistently. I experienced this issue shortly after purchasing the BlackBerry PlayBook in April, followed the knowledge base article and have not experienced the issue henceforth. Rarely is this an actual hardware problem.
