    Hello everyone,

I noticed that it longer connects at 802.11n speeds and if you set it to 5ghz it defaults to 802.11a. I read several posts on the forum people having these issues. Pleasae check your wifi info and let's make a combined thread. Thanks.

even from the 1.0.6, my playbook never uses 802.11n.

cannot explain it. it always connects 802.11g so only 11mbps.
i dont think my access point supports 5ghz, still not much to complain since it cannot stream from network storage, slower connection is not much of an issue.

"a" or "n" standard may depend on support by the access point's firmware, and signal negotiation. Functionally they are pretty much identical.

Does anyone actually have a fix for this. There is obviously a problem when many people can only connect either at N- 11mbps or A- 24mbps. I have 2 other N laptops, both of which are connected at 11mbps so it isnt the routers fault. Its a PB issue...

My PB has only ever had the current release, and it only ever connects with 802.11G - I have B/G/N routers; never thought anything was wrong until I saw this thread.

EDIT : Now that I think about it, my 9650 also connects via wifi to the same routers; I would assume thats what's knocking the link speed down. Can test in a bit.

I am able to connect using either g or n. I actually have g higher in the priority because I get better reception. I have a Linksys 3000 router. Not sure I did anything special.

same here...also connect no problem. I have a linksys e4200 dual band router. Runs both 5g and 2.4g bands. Can connect with either of the bands . The 5g is set to only accept 802.11n or a connections whereas the 2.4g is set for mixed.

Runs very well on either connection getting 24mbps

I think the playbook doesn't report what it is using right. Unless you're using it for your home network or have internet access that is faster then 25mbps n will give you no faster internet speed then g does.

This is correct. My Playbook reports a 802.11g connection at 11mbps but my router is reporting an 802.11n connection at 72mbps.

Where on the playbook can you see what actual speed you got. Because I can't seem to find it anywhere :-)

I also have an E3000 router. I only ever get g at 11Mbps. I have a Gigabyte touchscreen netbook on the same network that consistently gets 130Mbps according to it's XP network control panel. I have the router security set for the 2.4GHz at mixed/WPA2, but for the 5GHz its WPA2 only. I've tried mixing things around but nothing changes connect speed.

Since I only have a 2MB adsl line it doesn't really matter... just that i would like to get it to work as designed.

Have you measured how long it takes to transfer a file from the other devices to another computer compared to the playbook? As RWD says with a 2mb line it doesn't matter for internet but for a home network is where the speed increase would be there.

Under Wi-Fi setting click the icon on the bottom left that is the signal logo with a question mark. Under "Diagnostic Information" drop down select "Wi-Fi Information", scroll to the bottom of the scree and you should see "Connection Data Rate".

Getting the same connection type and speed as you all are mentioning, but d/l tests averages way higher.

Run a speed test and see what you get if it's over 11mbps then the playbook is reporting it wrong.

    a = 24 Mbps

I should be getting similar to my desktop which is between 50-75 Mbps.

There is a bug, and it is preventing 'n' speed.
