All I can really say is that with the PlayBook's Tablet OS an update is never going to be too far away (hint, hint) and along with the updates you might be expecting, there's also going to be some surprises in the future that will make you say SWEEEEET!
Are the words from Kevin, so I am wondering if this is the update that is making us go sweet, or if there is something else in the pipes coming sooner than later....
FROM KEVIN: Hey guys, just so you don't have to scroll through pages to get to this... No, this isn't the update that's bringing stuff that'll make you say SWEEEET. This is really just a minor update in my opinion. Like seriously, you had to ask this question? It's pretty obvious... added language support, a few tweaks, zooming in video (cool, but not SWEEEET). This is definitely just a maintenance release with a few feature enhancements. So definitely not what I was referring to. Not sure what the eta is on some of the cooler stuff I saw, but I'm guessing a couple months still. Remember, RIM is going to do monthly-ish updates that are smaller, and tie the BIGGER feature updates to events... ie. release of a new device (radio versions) or shows (devcon, CES), etc.

Reason: Added Kevin's Response
Pretty disappointing update. 3 full months have now passed since launch. RIM is working in slow motion. They gotta do better then this. Now we wait another month for an update that gives a feature we dont care about. How hard is it to implement spell check/auto correct? Get some basic features out. Good thing i got this PB cheap and didn't pay full price.
So here's hoping another update is right around the corner
That's the same response we'd get from our father or mother while in the car on vacation when asking "Are we there yet?" ...and 1321 corners later we finally arrived. LOL
I was really hoping this would be the update that would make me go out there and 're-buy' my PlayBook.
From what I can see, I still have a bit of waiting to do
Yep. I keep an eye on developments (using that term generously) in the hopes that I can pick up another PlayBook. First, it has to meet my wants and needs, and currently it doesn't. Updates like this really don't help get it any closer.
Maybe they're not working as hard as we think they are... it's been months and all we've seen is virtual power buttons and minor bug fixes
This.
As much as I love my PlayBook, and as much as I've played defense for the thing, I'm starting to get genuinely fed up with RIM. I can't believe that over three months, we have gotten a few bug fixes, video chat and BBM via Bridge. Consider that in the last 90-something days, a team of people have only come up with those few things. That is a shame and it's downright embarassing.
How fooking hard can it be to create a calendar and put it in an OS update? I mean really? REALLY? Maybe BBM is a bit harder but an M.F.'ing calendar cannot even be added? I don't care because I have the calendar on my phone but it's no wonder when sales start tanking and the stupid thing doesnt even have a calendar. BOGO POS phones from Metro PCS have calendars and appointment notifications...why can't the PB?
Spell check/auto correct are still MIA. I mean, are you serious? I feel like the kid in the dentist video on YouTube - "Is this real life?" A team of "specialists" from (what I assumed to be) one of the best and brightest technology companies in the world cannot fit spell check/auto correct and a calendar into an OS update? Who are these monkeys? Lead them back to their cages and ration their bananas for the next few weeks. Bring someone with real talent into the picture - someone capable of fulfilling the promises that were made to us originally, and that can meet the expectations we have as BB phone users.
Last is apps. RIM claims to be open and eager for app development, and then you hear about things like IM+ which are entirely RIMs fault and show complete negligence. Dillo Hills hasn't been fixed for the last two updates. Where is Google Talk? Groupon? BlackBerry Protect? Shazam? Android seemed like a quick fix but at the rate that BB is approving their own developer's apps, I'll be wearing Depends and having hospice clean out my false teeth when they start allowing Android apps into app world. WHAT IS TAKING SO LONG?!
