Just Played With A PlayBook (Sorry, No Pics/Vids)...
- Here are my impressions, in no order:
1) I ran the HD demo vid, streamed Hulu, ran Podcasts, Kobo and NFS... All with no hiccups or memory warning!
2) The screen is beautiful... Bright and colorful.
3) The speakers kick a$$.
4) It's very easy to type in portrait as if it was a BB phone.
5) The UI is totally responsive and intuitive... Thumbs work great for bezel gestures in landscape
6) The power button is fine, don't worry! There is no clicky sound or feedback, but it requires little effort to work.
7) The browser was excellent.
Sorry for any mistakes. I'm out with my fiancee so I am splitting my attention lol. I will check back for any questions/comments.

- Sorry, I don't know. I do know that the guy at Best Buy was updating the OS yesterday when I went in. He said it was unusable while updating (BS lol), but I didn't wanna step on any toes. I don't know if there was another update today when I went back.04-16-11 05:00 PMLike 0

- I also played with a playbook a friend brought over along with his Ipad. I had already played with one at a demo at a local sears and was happy with the performance>
I did however get a little worried after all the reviews but after today I am stoked again!
The device was perfect, flash worked great in the browser I ran multiple apps without any type of warning. Browser loaded very quick! The only thing I could not try was the Bridge as it will not allow him to download the bridge app on his phone yet (not available in app world.
Having it next to his ipad made me realize the 7" form factor is perfect for me. cant wait until Tuesday!
OS build was .1628Last edited by KES16; 04-16-11 at 05:28 PM.

- I just left Best Buy in Cool Springs (Brentwood, TN). I played with the build 1628. It is really sweet. I love how fluid it is. I'm excited for Tuesday. The demo HD video actually suprised me. The pixel density really makes a difference. After watching Kevin's demo from his den - pairing with BT keyboard / mouse and HDMI to his TV - this has me cracking up. It's sick, really. I really hope the lagginess gets worked out with later builds when a Bridge connection is established. It may be as good (fast) as it gets... but, when the device is so fluid - pauses for calendar / email / contacts seems a little strange, but hey, it is real time...
I think this device is truly elegant, unique, fluid, fast, portable, and extremely open. There are going to be so many apps for this thing once the community gets thier hands on it - it will be insane. Frankly, the open architecture of QNX and the ability to tweak / custumize / etc. will be so much more universal than being locked into an unjailbroken iPad it will be comical.
While the iPad is still superior for laying on a couch and browsing the internet, IMO - the PlayBook's portability, pixel density & brightness (for daylight use) and customization are going to make this thing very appealing to folks who like full control and customization.04-16-11 05:18 PMLike 0 - I think the memory issue mostly will come from multiple tabs in the browser. I feel that with my 9780 the same issue arises. Many apps is fine, but 5, 6 tabs and I get a mem warning.04-16-11 05:19 PMLike 0
- My local best buy just got their demo unit. While I was getting my first hands on with it, it notified me that an update was available. I downloaded and ran the update. Version 1628, I believe. Afterward I proceeded to play for an hour on it. Loved it! Very fast, smooth. Camera was great, shot a short video with my son, impressed with quality in the bright store. Typed a quick document with docs to go, very comfortable in both landscape and portrait mode. A lot faster than I thought I would be. Within 5 minutes, gestures were very natural. Paired with my bb to view my email.. Awesome! Browser was quick and fluid, flash loaded and played great. Fit in my back pocket!!! Big for me as in my work, I need to have my hands free for other tools at times, and have to make separate trip to get iPad. This will even fit in a pocket of my tool pouch! Sorry for the long post, I'm in love... See ya bright and early Tuesday morning!04-16-11 05:23 PMLike 0
- sleepngbearRetired ModeratorWhat is this obsession with the frakkin power button? It's like getting in a Ferrari and complaining about the shape of the key.

- I had 5 browser tabs open, HD video, NFS, and docs to go. No low memory warnings or lags. I had no problem viewing web pages in landscape. Used to scrolling on iPad and net book at home, no different to me. The browsing seemed a bit easier for me on playbook as I tend to hold the iPad further away when sitting on the couch... Held the playbook at a more natural distance. Actual usage time about 45 minutes after I did the update.mikelanding likes this.04-16-11 05:37 PMLike 1
- Actually it was the best buy reps bb. I don't know how he was bridged, I should have said that, I guess I did say mine... Sorry04-16-11 05:42 PMLike 0
- I could easily envision using playbook as a GPS in the car, and accessing your music at the same time. Sound quality much better than my iPad. Need a nice mount for the car. Saw one here on crackberry, mounted to vent, but no bracket as far as I could find. Any ideas anyone?04-16-11 06:19 PMLike 0
