One advantage over ipad, since all the PBS videos are flash.

Wow! I was able to save as screen icon & browser favorite by swiping down from frame. Didn't know I could do both.
Nova is favorite channel. Now I can get thru wifi with just one click. Apps are fine, but not needed just to pull up url!
Thanks so much!

I'm a Canadian fan of PBS... and if you ask KSPS Spokane, you'll find they get more than 50% of their viewer donations from Canadian viewers.
When I tapped on the video "Secrets of the Sun", the video advertisement before the video displayed fine and sounded fine. But when the movie was supposed to start, here is what I got...Patrick from Calgary

Hey TK,
Are you located in the U.S.?
I just figure PBS put a geographical restriction onto their videos... and Canada ain't included.Patrick from Calgary

OT warning (diverging to discuss Air France 447)
The documentary on AF 447 is a bit dated. Since it was produced the wreckage was located and the black boxes recovered. What it points to is that the aircraft lost its airspeed data due to icing of the pitot sensors. This in turn caused the aircraft’s computers to revert to a fully manual flight control configuration disabling the auto flight functions and all the flight envelope protections built into every Airbus. And for some inexplicable reason, the First Officer of the relief flight crew (on duty at the time) responded with constant nose up command through his side stick. This caused the aircraft to climb and eventually stall as the protections against stalling were inoperative.
His constant nose up commands caused the aircraft to enter a deep stall (high angle of attack, low airspeed and a high rate of descent), which went unrecognized by the flight crew. They knew they were rapidly descending but couldn't figure out why.
It wasn't until the captain of the primary flight crew entered the cockpit that they realized that the aircraft was in a stall and the first officer had been applying nose up commands the entire time. By that point it was too late to recover.
Other than causing the initial icing the convective activity in the area had little impact on the accident.
So the preliminary findings point to actions by the crew as being the main cause. Secondarily, there are contributing factors including the pitot design, flight control design, implementation of alternate flight modes and training that are also being considered.
The scary thing is that the FO for a top tier airline decided that constant nose up commands were appropriate for an unreliable airspeed situation and a high rate of descent situation. I can only guess that he assumed the computers would sort it all out just as they usually did.
I'm also surprised as to how stable the aircraft was in the deep stall. It was arguably recoverable down to below 10,000 feet had the crew responded in an appropriate manner.

Hey Patrick, try choosing Washington as your state and pick ktcs 9 as your station

It just needs some kind of input I guess. Works for me in Ontario.. Give her a try! What's in a world? - 05-02-2012, 11:14 AM #9
I am a huuuuge fan of NOVA. My mom was a librarian when i was growing up so she would bring home a different NOVA doc every week for me to watch. I still watch them to this day. Something about the way they present the info works perfectly with me and i just absorb the knowledge. Thanks a ton for the link.
I am also in Canada and it works for me. It does prompt for a sign in name and password but i just hit cancel and it seems to work regardless. Maybe cuz its Beta. - 05-02-2012, 12:01 PM #11
I'm a Canadian fan of PBS as well..
It's funny you can get all PBS programs OTA in Toronto area, through stations in Buffalo, while all internet sources for official PBS programs are geo-blocked.
Either shell out $4.99 a month for unblock-us service, or just record all OTA program... problem is you can't get PBS VODs that you missed. - 05-02-2012, 09:55 PM

I'm in Okotoks Alberta and it works for me. When I click the play button it asks for a login, I hit cancel and then the video starts.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just went to the PBS home Page and selected KTCS as my station... in fact that is the PBS station that appears on my tv listing's. Unfortunately I just got the same thing... the ad plays then a messages fills the screen saying "We're sorry, but this video is not available in your region due to rights restrictions."
I'm not using a proxy... tho maybe I should get on that.
Johnny Cat, where did you get the username & password? Do you have to be a donor or a paid subscriber?Patrick from Calgary

Well Pat, guess what? I went back today so I could document a step by step of what I did for you and I now find myself in the same boat
The page is different now when I go to PBS.org KTCS is now incorporated in the page, guess it was maybe a one time deal/teaser deal. Not working anymore, sigh

As I indicated - putting in a US proxy in your wifi connection takes less than a minute. Lots of free ones out there.

I haven't been able to get the proxy to work. I googled free public ip, and tried 5 different ones, entered them in my PB wifi settings with the associated port #... no luck. None of them ever got to a webpage. One of them started to download the webpage, but stalled while the screen was still blank, but with the website name on the banner.

This one makes it easy ( you can set filters by country) Free Proxy List - Public Proxy Servers (IP PORT) - Hide My ***!
If either of you still can't make it work I'll pm you the proxy i use - I'd rather not post it in open forums .Thanked by 2:PatrickMJS (05-04-2012), sputneek (05-03-2012)

Patrick, I had just been clicking cancel when it asked me for a sign in, but that was before. Just tried it again here now and I'm getting the same thing as the rest of you.
