If the PB 4G is released to you plan on buying it? (assuming current prices)
I orginally thought it would have been a long time before I'd ever buy a tablet but ended up buying a PB once the price dropped. Now I am thinking I might buy a new one if they release a new PB. After seeing videos from TAT and all the work RIM been putting into the platform having 2 PBs might be good for whatever cool stuff we might be able to do with them. Also I only bought a 16GB so having an extra one would allow me more storage.

I voted yes, but doubt it will be at the current pricing. All the same, I will be very interested in what else it will have besides the 4G ability.

I agree, I do think it will be at a higher price. I'd be willing to pay if it had NFC, amoung other things. Would be cool for quickly linking it to my BB phone.

Are you saying you can't link to your BB phone now?

No. I mean like just tapping them together. I think thats something NFC is good for. Like RIMs new media thing, I forget whats its called, but you just tap you phone and it connects and you can start playing music from your phone to your home theatre.

My cell bill, heating bill, electric bill, sewer bill and normal phone bill mean I want another bill like a hole-in-the-head. So, NO, not much chance at all. And at the rate US carriers are gouging more and more and offering less and less - NO CHANCE AT ALL.

I was thinking you don't have to get a data plan for it. -

With 4G there will be additional data plan, at least here in the States it will be more likely than not.

The only intersting issue with 4g is will they have unlimited data... Most of my Apple Ipad friends found they could get no unlimited and the prices on the data plans were rediculously expensive... Many reached their cap in one week......will need to wait and see how that part shakes out....
At this point my Bridge works great so I do not see moving... maybe a 10 in playbook mght tickle my fancy.... - 05-21-2012, 12:20 AM #10
I just bought a second PB for the same reason. A new one lets me have one for extra storage once the new OS and hopefully great apps are released. Since I also recently bought a Bold 9790, I won't need a 4G unit when it is released. I am completely behind RIM but will likely try to get other family and friends in the BB world rather than buying too many more devices myself.

What's the 4G Playbook good for then?
I doubt that the bump in clock speed will bring about any significant performance improvements (they should have better bumped the amount of RAM instead).
Also note, that the battery capacity will be about 10% smaller. Couple that with the higher clock speed and 4G and NFC chips running (if you use those), and you'll likely have a significantly shorter battery life.
The only tangible benefit would be if you use NFC a lot.Last edited by kennyliu; 05-21-2012 at 12:44 AM.

Yeah, cellphone service fees in the States are ridiculous. I have been to quite a few developing countries and I can tell you that they have better quality service at a fraction of what we pay here (even if you consider differences in income). No contracts, no additional (or very cheap) text message and data fees, etc.

Well, this is not the case here, in mexico, we pay around 60 dollars, for 3gb data plan , with 60 minutes for talking and 5 text messages. And this is the cheapest one, its ridiculous.
Thats why Carlos Slim ( he owns Telcel and Telmex, the biggest carriers in Mexico) is the world's richest man.. - 05-21-2012, 01:28 AM

Current prices are not going to happen. RIM can't keep losing money on them. But the answer is still no. When the one I have dies I will get whatever wifi version is made then. I can see corporations wanting the 4g one though.

Bought the first PB little after launch wasnt thrilled with my purchase but since seems like there have been a lot of changes os updates apps ect. I would buy a 4g playbook if there was a bump in screen resolution and it was considerably faster than the original. My sprint service on my 9930 is slow so not really interested in using it to bridge so a 4g lte is a must for me. I think the overall design was great so really looking forward to hearing any confirmed new news on the next gen PB. With that being said cant come in at a 500$ plus price range. I have thought even with my 1st PB purchase that a 249 price point would be perfect maybe even up to 350. After that not so sure

No, I don't want the extra monthly fee. That's why I likw bridge and wifi.

Very unlikely: Battery life is only OK with wi-fi. BTW, I require a replaceable battery for any wireless-service device.

I would never buy an 3g4g tablet because I don't want an extra data plan and wifi tablets are cheaper. If I would ever need mobile internet, I'd pay for the mobile hotspot on my phone.
EDIT: I take that back. Never is a strong word, let's see if Verizon's new shared data plans let you include a tablet...Last edited by brucep1; 05-21-2012 at 12:16 PM.
I survived the Storm of 2008 and the PlayBook of 2011.
