I just want the tablet that won't be outdated soon. I hate that people tell me that the playbook is outdated already. I don't know if it is that extreme, but this is people's perception. And that sucks.

Well I certainly don't think mine is outdated at all. In fact it seemed new with the 2.0 update. It will feel new again with 2.1 etc. On up to bb10.

So the playbook will be upgradeable and I won't be looking for a new tablet for awhile? That's good to know.

I love the size of my Playbook. Perfect for taking everywhere with me. And it does everything I need it to do - browsing, reading, email (and the occasional game ). That said, my son loves his iPad. Different people have different wants and needs. Really depends on you and what you want to do with it. For me it was an easy choice.

EDIT: Had to add - watching movies is amazing. Beautiful picture!

The size is a definite deal breaker. I don't know how i am going to feel about carrying the ipad around. I like portability and I want to be able to take this with me and even use it as a camera... the camera on my Curve SUCKS
If the money isnt an issue this is perfect. I hope when you say on paper you mean apps, hardware, even end use.
I got my daughter an ipad2 the day they launched. She used it for maybe a solid month. The size of the thing wore the "new" off very quick. She never used the camera, I asked why when she asked me to take her to buy a camera to take pictures at something they where doing in 4h. She said using the ipad as a camera was like using a car door.
We got her a 16gb PB when I got my 64gb and I've already filled a 25 gb blueray disc with pictures she's taken with the PB. Thats how much she is using it.
Last week she placed 3rd in a contest she entered a picture of our new born she had taken at Easter with her PB. They did not believe she had taken it with the PB.
She didnt read book on her ipad. She has acquired quite a collection of books on her PB.
I hear so many people complain about the ackwardness of the ipad.

According to apple, the ipad is outdated once they bring a new one out.
In terms of size I wouldn't buy a 10 inch...it's not much smaller than some netbooks, which can be cheaper and with massively increased functionality. Some even have dvd drives now.
    oil.....is it really worth it?

Is that yours? Remember your not spending the money for "people's perception". Your spending money on something YOU use. By the time a company releases a product to market they had already started on the "NEXT" one.
One thing is for sure. If it works the day you take it home. It'll do the same thing 2 years down the road. If you keep up with the jones you better go get that ipad3 today. Its already starting to get alittle age and sam is subject to drop a new galaxy but mid summer. Never ending cycle.

I honestly dont think that one needs to buy the latest thing everytime. I find that terribly annoying!!! I try not to buy into needing the latest gadget. This is going to be my first tablet, and I see now that I am driving my self nutty.

I love Blackberry, I am a big supporter, I will own a BB phone until it is pried from my dying hand... but... in this case, tablet-wise, I am also considering an ipad
I just need to know how everyone feels about the screen size...please no arguments about which tablet is better, that is not why I am posting...
I simply want to know how everyone feels about the 7" inch screen and what your thoughts/experiences are.
    Thanks everyone
I first owned a Xoom, but soon grew weary of holding that big sucker. The moment i heard pb was on sale i sold the Xoom and bought two pb,s. I've never regretted going down in screen size.

I use LAN File Explorer. I believe it is on sale right now for .99.

Splashtop is a little different a you are actually running your desktop from your playbook, so what your are doing on the playbook is also happening on your desktop. Not practical if someone else wants to use the computer.

LAN file explorer streams videos and any other files from files on your computer. Now it can only be used on your own network, not anywhere else. You download the File Hub software to your desktiop or laptop and input which files you want the playbook to be able to access. On the playbook you put in your computers IP and Port (the File Hub program will tell you what they are) and away you go. It also has a music player which I use as it does shuffle.

There is also another app out there that does this as well and also will convert any video to codecs that the playbook will play. I can't watch any of my videos that have the AC3 audio codec with LAN file explorer as it isn't compatible on the playbook. Someone will pipe in on what the other one is, its name escapes me for the moment.

I remember when the Xoom was first introduced and there was a guy at demo setup at Costco. I had been intrigued by the commercials but when I picked it up, it was like "wow, this thing is very heavy."

7" is just the perfect size. It is very mobile, great browser with flash support (no other table in the market supports it), awesome movie and video experience. It is just the right size, not too big nor not too small.

On paper the iPad(3)'s GPU seems like a huge advantage, but it isn't as bad as it seems. The iPad(3) has a resolution of 2048x1536 (total pixels 3,145,728). The PlayBook has a resolution of 1024x600 (total pixels 614,400). The iPad(3) needs a huge amount of GPU because it needs to move around over 5 times the number of pixels.
    Not true at all.

GPU's are now used to data process alongside the CPU and are more effective at it than CPU's. Project farming like Seti@Home and hundreds of other projects run faster on modern GPU based processors.

Being quad-core allows the Ipad 3 to run 4 concurrent calculations at the same. It also important to note that there is not a linear use of GPU and number of pixels on a screen... thus twice the number of pixels does not mean twice the GPU power required.

The test is in the FLOPS. Floating Point Calculations per Second.

Depending where you get your benchmarks...

The PB: 3.2 to 4.5 GFLOPS
    iPad 3: 32 GFLOPS

So to sum up... GPU's do not simply run graphics and the benchmarks put the iPad 3 at about 10 times the speed with 4 times the core.

Only if the software was written to take advantage of the gpu. If its not when it leaves ram it will go into the cpu's cache.

    What he said...

The software needs to be written to take advantage of the hardware at hand, so any Native PB apps will run absolutely fine on the PB, written for the hardware, but iPad, with three variants, now has apps running on 3 sets of hardware, if you take into consideration the apps that also run on iTouch, and iPhone variants, thats a LOT of different hardware, so the Apps could be written to fill any number of these set-ups, which is why app performance in the iPad is very touch and go, Sonic 4 for instance runs great on the iPad2, but is laggy and awful on iPad1. this gets even worse when you take Android into consideration. you get reviews like 5* Amazing next to 1* doesn't work on my (insert device name)

Until PBOS becomes BB10 and the phones are released, all Native playbook apps give the same Level of performance. there's no hit and miss (unless you count the android player) and that is something i appreciate about the system. when i buy an app, i know, that the reviews are reviews based on MY exact set up. and im unlikely to ever be disappointed

Agreed, how the PB OS runs this I am not sure, also if 3rd party client compiled code makes use of this or can instigate GPU processes.

Also worth noting... I'm fairly sure the PB doesn't have a GPU chip, but the GPU is a core of the CPU.
