I would have no interest in the PlayBook if it were larger. As mentioned above, more portable. I love being able to fit it easily into my purse. If I wanted something as large as some of the other tablets, I might as well carry around a laptop computer, which would be able to do more.

Purchased my PB due to size no other reason.
If functionality was the deciding factor (remember I purchased close to day 1), with hindsight I would not have purchased it.
It's a shame, but the PB lacks too much IMHO. So you need to decided what you need it to do for you beyond the scope of size. So ask yourself what you want it to do for you, post those requirements for another bunch of conflicting opinions. - 05-05-2012, 02:36 AM #29
After using a PlayBook the ipad seems a little bulky and awkward to use now. I think the size is perfect but it's all personal preference isn't it really? I was a bit dubious to start with but I was easily won over after a few trips to Currys to check out the device before buying.
Webpages can be browsed without need to zoom and games are easy to control with you able to reach the whole screen with your thumbs.
If I were you I would check it out instore a couple of times and see what you think. For a saving of over £200 its not much of a sacrifice if at all. - 05-05-2012, 02:46 AM #30
I got one of these after having an Asus Transformer.
I thought the size would matter but honestly it doesn't.
Much easier to use the keyboard (on-screen) and play games with the 7" screen. Any bigger and your fingers cant reach the centre.
This is another reason why this device is emulator heaven. - 05-05-2012, 03:02 AM #31
I wanted a 7" tablet from the start cos it was large enough to do all the stuff I need (Read books, mail, browsing online for stuff, watching videos and Some gaming) yet small enough to carry around with ease..
Galaxy Note : Too small to read anything..
ipad : Too large to carry around.. And I can't imagine myself playing Asphalt on that :P - 05-05-2012, 04:00 AM #32
I also wouldn't mind if there was a 10" Playbook with higher res screen. I would definitely get one.
Of course, it wouldn't be as portable, but it would be great for couch web surfing and watching movies. - 05-05-2012, 05:02 AM #33MyHomeSpace.ca and MyCondoSpace.ca

If you Want a bigger tablet than PlayBook the iPad may be best for you. I know you must have gone to the store and checked them out before asking here. The PlayBook isn't for everyone and the iPad is bigger. It is your own personal preference not what a bunch of folks tell you on a forum.

If The PB was 10" even if it was $49.99 super duper fire sale
I would have not even considered purchasing one.
My main reason for the PB purchase was cause my iPad2 was
too big to carry around with me.
My PB fits perfect in my inner Jacket pocket. It's like the pocket
was made for it
BlackBerry should make a jacket with a front pocket for a BB device
inner for Playbook.
pics for fun

For me the fact that the PlayBook fits in my jacket pocket, cargo shorts pocket, even (without case) in the back pocket of some pairs of jeans makes it much more portable for me. I take it everywhere and use it everywhere, 18-20 hours per day some days. A 10" tablet would be much more specialized, used less often.

I used to have an iPad2. and the trouble was carrying it with me required the use of a "Man Bag" and while im not above carrying a Man Bag, it became annoying that i couldnt travel with the ipad without it, the iPad became a stay at home toy, and was kind of replacing my laptop, but only because it was on, and didnt need to boot up. The thing is though, i would try and do things on the iPad that i would do on the Laptop, and it just couldn't do it and id have to boot up anyway.
So i decided a smaller form factor was needed. so i looked around, i could go for the Samsung galaxy tab 7, a cheap crappy android with a resistive screen, or the Playbook. I had a feel of the Playbook in the shop and fell in love with its build quality. its size, its landscape format...
So the iPad was sold and the Playbook was bought, and i have never looked back. I have gotten into ereading on a non e-ink screen which i couldnt do before, and low and behold, the playbook has actually managed to replace my laptop at home too. Sure Skype would be nice, but it would also be nice it this thing had a nuclear battery and never ran out and it spewed forth money every hour, but you cant have everything.
The 7inch screen has never Not even once, been any kind of issue or concern. I have never thought to myself, this would be better on a big screen, well, except for movies, which are absolutly fine on the PB, but that HDMI out is worth its weight in gold for that, and the option to HDMI to the tv, turn on the surround sound and control my music playback via bridge... AWESOME! I had an apple product, and a 9.7 inch screen, i sold it for a 7 inch playbook and i have never been happier, never looked back or regretted it, and i have never even considered buying another ipad or other 9.7 device in the future. - 05-05-2012, 09:06 AM #40
I can't believe there is this many comments over screen size...But I have an opinion too.
My friend was here yesterday and told me his EVO 4G does everything my PB does. Well, he had to go zoom crazy to read anything and scroll all over the place. There was no way that phone did what my PB does.
10" tabs, no matter what brand...might as well take a laptop or netbook.
A nice cheap 10 netbook won't do 1080 video though...
I agree with the original poster. It would be very nice to have 10" PB, but the 7" can't be beat for what it is. If I had a 10" PB it would stay home next to my chair while the 7 got to go everywhere.
My laptop only got to go to the lake once.__________________________________________________ __________________________

If I wanted a laptop or a jumboepic 10 inch anchor I would have purchased one.......Thats why I purchased a PLAYBOOK because its not big or clunky and travels well.

I don't have an iPad, although I have used my sister-in-laws.
To be honest, I only bought my playbook cause my nephew-in-law works at RIM so I got in on the RIM employee deal last December.
Now I don't know how I lived without it.
I carry it everywhere. It's size is just perfect. I've even got used to reading my magazines on it, which I thought were really better for a 10"screen.
Video size is fine. While washing dishes in the kitchen, I either watch videos as my playbook sits on the window sill or chat with my sister in Kitchener.
If you plan to use your tablet as an ebook reader or magazine reader, then the smaller size is better. I found using my sister-in-laws iPad started to weigh down on my hands after not too long.
I actually just used my laptop for the first time yesterday since I bought my playbook back in December. Now the laptop pretty much is reserved for doing trade shows.
Cost and size is really based on how you plan to use your tablet.
For the cost of a iPad, you could get up to 3 playbooks, depending on what GB size you chose.
I just have a 16gb and its fine for me. I don't store many videos on it as I just stream them from the computer to the playbook when I want to watch them. Still have lots of space left.
As to how many years you will get out of it. Heck, in 2 or 3 years both these tablets will probably obsolete and newer cheaper faster ones will be out there.
Just think what you used to pay for a desktop computer.

i've been loving the size on the playbook. i'm not the type of girl to walk with a big handbag (dont get the point of it)... so this fits great in the bags i do have, no worries at all. it also encourages me to bring it EVERYwhere i go because of it, which is great

I think the 7" size is great. The PlayBook is great for taking on trips or just taking it out and about. I carry my Playbook pretty much everywhere I go! Fits great in my back pocket, can't do that with an iPad!

I have an iPad 3 and PlayBook. I REALLY hate holding the iPad, its extremely awkward to hold and playing games, and/or working on it just DOESN'T WORK! The PlayBook doesn't feel small when you're using it, and doesn't feel awkward. Also, the cold metal on the back of the iPad is horrible compared to the nice 'rubbery' sturdy feel of the PlayBook. However, that is just my opinion. In the end, its you're choice.

I agree. I was thinking about buying both and then seeing which one better fit my needs. On paper, looking at specs, it seems like the ipad3 has nudged ahead.
The size is a definite deal breaker. I don't know how i am going to feel about carrying the ipad around. I like portability and I want to be able to take this with me and even use it as a camera... the camera on my Curve SUCKSPlease come visit my Etsy shop! http://www.etsy.com/shop/darkmuse
