I love OS 2 (and a couple suggestions for future updates)
This thread isn't unique but I felt the need to express my gratitude toward RIM and the development team for a really smooth and simple rollout.
While I only received my PB in December I can't say that I've been "waiting forever" for functions "that should have been shipped with the early release", though I'm not disagreeing with that sentiment. OS 2.0 beta was enough to tide me over until February so I'll count myself lucky.
That said, I find the bridge-to-PB link-up flawless. The ability to turn off particular emails or other pushed information to my PB by way of my BB phone is outstanding and exactly what I'd expect to happen. While I'm not big on the two-finger scrolling, the Alt-trackpad and/or Alt-caps alternatives are the perfect combination for my 9900 and fingers. It feels natural and leaves me scared only that one day I'll need a new Alt key at the rate I'm going.
The OS 2 release and OS 2 beta don't differ much as far as UI is concerned so, to that end, I have no complaints or comments. The native apps that came along with the official release, however, really have me watering at the mouth. I wish there was an option to merge duplicate contacts into one withing the address book but beyond that everything feels very fluid transitioning from the BB OS 7 interface to PB 2. The mail app took no more than a minute or two to get used to while the calendar is a really interesting way to manage one's time. I feel that both of them work exactly as I expected and I'm happy to have stuck around long enough to given them a whirl.
My only suggestions for RIM, and maybe this is just one man's request, are the following:
1. The ability by way of remote control on bridge to highlight, copy, paste, and whatnot text on my PB. I wrote an email earlier where I wanted a word in italics that I'd already written. I scrolled over to it but found no way to highlight the word. I ended up erasing it and re-writing with the italics button down. Not a major gripe but it could be a pain when I've got whole sentences or paragraphs to edit.
2. A shortcut or swipe to bring one to the top/bottom of a page and/or screen by way of both bridge and non-bridge.
3. A much better file explorer. File management is nice and all but file explorer (à la BB phone) is a much more useful and powerful tool. The downloadable app Files & Folders is exactly what I expected the PB to come with stock.
4. I'd like to see any and all languages supported on the PB (removable as one wishes, of course) and on the phone bridged to it available as input. Specifically Korean, Chinese, and Japanese support, but maybe that's just me. Chinese (or all) handwriting would be nice too. That is, if I have German as an input language on both my phone and my PB I'd like to see it as an input by way of bridge. Same goes for the CJKs.
Alas, I'm sure there are little nitpicky things I could get at too, but in the end I'm very happy and satisfied with my PB. I never had anything to complain about before and now I'm nothing but smiles.
Thank you RIM for this very fluid experience and thank you CB for keeping me addicted to my RIM devices. ^^
