- So, I'm a noob to the PlayBook and the tablet space in general. Just picked one up 2 weeks ago for $299. Since, I've tuned into forums/talk about the PB in general and am really surprised by all the complaints.
I think the PB is fantastic. If you have a BB phone (I have a 9930), bridge takes care of BBM, calendar, contacts, and messages (I'm not sure I'd want to manage separate accounts anyway!). PLUS, it allows you to access the internet via the PB anywhere you have a signal w/o paying for an additional 3G service. PLUS, it has the full internet experience w/ flash support. Who cares about apps when you have the complete internet. I don't get the obsession w/ apps. I have a ThinkPad (T400) laptop that I love and I don't think I've ever though, "mean, where are all the apps for this thing!" Why would I want to waste my time w/ apps when I have the internet?
My only complaint about the PB would be improved .pdf & Microsoft Office support (i.e. the ability to play animations in PowerPoint) and the ability to play video from Hulu & Netflix which aren't supported in the browser (to my knowledge). If they can fix these, I think it's the perfect tablet.
That said, I wouldn't trade it for an iPad. No way.10-26-11 08:37 AMLike 11 -
- Sure, it's not a bad Tablet at this point. No one really disputes that.
What we are ******** about is that it's about 1/2 of what RIM said it would be at launch in APRIL 2011. Now they are saying it will be February 2012 BEFORE we get what they said it would have in APRIL 2011.....
Get it now NOOB?10-26-11 08:58 AMLike 3 - alli can say is i love my playbook. it does everthing i could ever need. the bridge works great. i love it10-26-11 08:59 AMLike 4

For us it was like buying a car, that didn't come with an engine, but told the engine would be there soon, so we waited and waited and waited, then learn a year later the engine has come; and listen to people say I don't know why everyone is complaining, at least we had the car radio this last year to listen to.10-26-11 09:00 AMLike 4
- Ok, so RIM hasn't delivered on everything they said they would. I suppose at some point we need to get over that as long as they are still working to make things right. However, I still think the PB is a fantastic device and have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. I did "upgrade" to the 2.0 developer version but had so much trouble getting things to work (I'm not a developer but hoped that the basics we had in the official release would work as before) I just downgraded last night and continue to enjoy the tablet.
I look forward to the official release of 2.0, but until then I will not give up my Playbook!black hole likes this.10-26-11 09:04 AMLike 1 - Haters will hate it, no matter what.
Those of us who bought it based on what it can do NOW still think it's a good and useful tablet. You'll find most of the haters are the ones that paid full price when it was released and now they are upset, with good reason.
Bottom line though is no one twisted their arm to buy it. And if they bought it based on what was promised 60 days later, then what did they do with it for 60 days? Let it sit in the box? I don't get it.
Either way, you'll see the same names pop up on this forum trashing RIM and the PB. It may be deserved in some cases, but some here just like to hear themselves talk.estalzer and anon(3641385) like this.10-26-11 09:07 AMLike 2 - I paid $249 and already have a 9650. I like it and it works well for me, but I didn't want to be tied to a BB phone forever. If you don't have a BB phone, then I can't see why anybody would want to buy the PB. I don't need apps but having native PIM like i have had for 2 years on the 9650 that synchs with my desktop is very important. Yes I have it now and it works because of bridge. Not being able to SMS from it is also a major hassle. I needed just a few simple fixes to make me very happy, yet despite the 60/Summer/Dev Con promises I am still waiting. Our hardware advantage will be gone by Feb. I just hope the Feb date holds as I am up for a new phone in March and would like the option of picking another phone outside the BB line.10-26-11 09:07 AMLike 0

- It must be human nature. Go to Android Central and browse the Xoom or Samsung tablet forums, its the same there. Even the ios ipad forum has exactly the same kind of complainers there. - Kinda rude don't you think?
I'm w/him, I'm happy w/mine and bridge makes it that much better. Do I think it's perfect? No far from but like I've said about my Storm 1 (that I've used for almost 3 yrs until I got my 9850), it does what I need it to do. From reading all the rants and complaints about the PB, it just sounds like they just need to buy another tablet. Some posters sound like their life revolves around the PB and god help them if OS2.0 doesn't come out soon so they can run Droid apps, lol. Just say'n...10-26-11 09:19 AMLike 3 -
- Original "noob" here. No offense taken from chasvs--I can see how people who paid full price might be upset. I wasn't willing to pay $599 for it, but then I wasn't willing to pay that much for ANY tablet. I jumped on the PB at $299 b/c it was the right price point for me. Also, I bought it knowing that others payed $250 and that there might be a chance RIM would discount them further. If the do, great! I'm happy w/ it at the price I was willing to pay.
Also worth comparing: The Kindle Fire will be $100 cheaper, but w/ half the memory, no flash support (if I remember correctly) and no front/rear camera. Plus, you get roped into Amazon Prime to really enjoy it. I'll take the PB any day. But that's just me. I'm not trying to say it is the "best" tablet, just that for ME it is. Even if it drops to $100, I'm happy w/ my purchase. Heck, I'd probably go buy 2 more!10-26-11 09:28 AMLike 0 - So someone who just bought a playbook at a much cheaper price and hasn't really been into the tablet market doesn't understand why people who have had the thing for a while with all the broken promises that came with it and see other products continually get better doesn't know why some are complaining?
I'd venture to say that you haven't been around the product and market long enough to understand the disdain as well as the satisfaction that many have. It might be the best thing since sliced bread to you, but be aware that others just might have a different history with this and other products. I mean if you get a product at a cheaper price and haven't really been through waiting for the updates like others, of course you wouldn't understand. Honestly, you shouldn't even try to understand. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. You start reading about all the stuff everyone is complaining about then you'll unconsciously develop similar opinions if you're not careful.10-26-11 09:37 AMLike 0 - So, I'm a noob to the PlayBook and the tablet space in general. Many people who frequent the PlayBook forums were early adopters and saw right off the bat how potentially powerful and effective the tablet could be. Having paid a hefty sum for their 16/32/64 GB device they expected deadlines to be met and their device to be well looked after by RIM. RIM, as we all know have not really kept their word and left us to wonder if we should have just waited like you, who got it for a very nice reduced price.
See, though there are people on here who do nothing but complain and bemoan the lack of development of the PlayBook, there are others who truly love the device but feel experimented with by RIM. Can you blame these spenders of $499/$599/$699 (like myself) for feeling slighted when RIM has not really "delivered".
I said earlier that I love my PlayBook and so do many of the people who have been slandered as complainers. However we are not disillusioned, and are completely cognizant of the fact that we have been toyed with somewhat, and the possible upward thrust that RIM was garnering, has been handed a blow. You are new to the PlayBook and you have not completely seen the growth it has made over these months; a growth that has been frustrating to watch at times as RIM will seemingly take a step or 2 forward then 3 back.
So if people want to complain let them complain... I will just sit back and hang my head in disappointment. Many people here are already voicing my grouses.
Thanks for listening.Last edited by bounce007; 10-26-11 at 10:06 AM.

"Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing"
Everybody's got a thing
But some don't know how to handle it
Always reachin' out in vain
Accepting the things not worth having but
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing, mama
Cause I'll be standing on the side
When you check it out
They say your style of life's a drag
And that you must go other places
But just don't you feel too bad
When you get fooled by smiling faces but
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing, mama
Cause I'll be standing on the side
When you check it out...Yeah
When you get it off...your trip
Don't you worry 'bout a thing...Yeah
Don't you worry 'bout a thing...Yeah
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing, mama
Cause I'll be standing on the side
When you check it out...
When you get it off...your trip
Everybody needs a change
A chance to check out the new
But you're the only one to see
The changes you take yourself through
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing, pretty mama
Cause I'll be standing in the wings
When you check it out
Don't you worry 'bout a thing

As chasvs said, much of consumer purchase of this device was contingent upon expectations that have yet to materialize. It would be one thing had RIM been tight-lipped about OS updates, but they had intimated that these updates and features would be out much sooner, and that's what has upset a lot of people.10-26-11 10:29 AMLike 0 - "I don't get the complaining"
I didn't either until I was here for a while. Most of it is people disgruntled with the Storm purchase they made long ago - and then proceeded to buy the playbook without the features they needed, based on what they thought the future would hold. Now they are disgruntled. They made a poor choice for themselves, believed the wrong people, and of course it's RIM's fault.
OR they dont even own a playbook and are just here to rant because they think another device is better and are evangelists..
Just count the complainers - you will see that it's just the same names and a relative handful of vocal people in here...Last edited by blackjack93117; 10-26-11 at 10:49 AM.
