I returned a my first PlayBook only because I decided to get the 32GB model instead of the 16GB model. But for both devices it took over an hour just to download the initial update. I have a 15Mbs connection and after my first PlayBook got done with the first update it would perform a speedtest at 15Mbs. So why, does it take so long to download the first update? I thought I may have gotten one of those "bad" Staples PlayBooks.

    Any Ideas?

I still really like the PlayBook

Still updating my 32GB model. First attempt failed... crap...

I don't believe my eyes. The amount downloaded is literally going up and down. It was at about 140MB and it now says 81MB????

at 91% it said it could not download the update! No!!!!

Finally! I set the PB right on top of my router! it seemed to download considerably faster! Installed, restored... life resumes...

Well, your connection might be fine, but also take into account that perhaps RIM's servers are running at less than optimal performance.

I don't remember how long mine took. Pretty sure it was just short of forever.

Every time I updated my PB, it always running fast. But occasionally stuck at 90% or something. So, the amount of retries made it longer to update even though the connection is fast.

My first update took 2 hours, but that was at the Best Guess Store. It is a lot to download, so I don't think anything is amiss.

Anyone used the bridge to update? I used wifi and it took less than 20 minutes, but I didn't get the last update at the first crack of dawn.

I don't think you can update on bridge. Slow downloads happen all the time, it depends on the server they are coming from and how many people are using it etc.

that's really odd guys. When I bought the PB on launch day, I got it to the office, connected to the office network and I had the update downloaded and installed within 20min or so and its like that for every update since, doesn't take more than 20-30min to complete and that is updating at prime time as everyone is waking up on CB and seeing the news there is an update

You can tether and download updates, I've done it before. However, during the first setup of the device, you must use Wifi.
