How many new recent apps have you installed?
Over the past month or so the number of decent apps coming into the Playbook domain seems to have nosedived.
A couple of decent free games and that's about it. The rest total dross that must have taken at least an hour to 'develop'.
Are you finding less and less of use as the weeks go by? - 11-03-2012, 05:26 AM #2
Re: How many new recent apps have you installed?
All depends on what apps you need! I don't play games, so that is not an issue with me. I have downloaded several apps, such as qPDF, Blaq, I would like to see a cross platform video app; there in browser video chat such as AOL.

Re: How many new recent apps have you installed?
I guess I won't know what I need until someone provides an app that scratches the unknown itch. But in the last while, there's been an app that does Video Playlists. There's that new video app that seems to play some of the missing audio/video codecs. I was alerted to an app that can search for files and open them - a form of universal search - it found my plum.doc recipe when I could not remember if it was a doc or pdf file.
Reading the homepage blog here and reading the threads, occasionally shows me apps I was not aware of. More would be nice - clearly. Hopefully, they will come. - 11-03-2012, 10:59 AM #11
Re: How many new recent apps have you installed?
I've pretty much got what I need - AutoPlay Videos that bookmarks my place for next time, Book Reader & Pdf Reader (both of which have bookmarking), and enough games to keep me from getting bored. I have noticed less apps but it isn't affecting me.

Re: How many new recent apps have you installed?
This is exactly what's happening. I haven't downloaded any apps in a while (with the one exception noted below). The Playbook was never much for apps anyway; we use it almost exclusively for web browsing.
Even though I already own this game on iOS, I had to buy it on the Playbook too. Great game! - 11-03-2012, 12:20 PM #13

Re: How many new recent apps have you installed?
Unlike most of the posts here I've downloaded quite a few this week. Blackbird and Blaq (not sure which i prefer yet), autoplay videos (been waiting for a decent video player), memory eater (saves all those lengthy reboots), stereotubes (again been waiting for a music player that can do multi playlists). All good apps.
Also bought my missus a nexus 7 for her birthday and spent all day yesterday loading it up with films music apps etc and played around with it for a while...and whilst it's really nice I don't think I'd swap my Playbook for it...Maybe it's an age thing but I'm 40 something and quite tech savvy but I just don't need angry birds and a million other apps. Plus the PB has hdmi out, great onboard speakers, great video quality, top quality camera..and it cost me £129 for a 64gb player. Awesome! - 11-03-2012, 04:19 PM #15
Absolutely awesome isn't it? I've spent the last year being torqued off every time I watched a movie on my pb because I knew if I had to stop in the middle, I'd have to try to find my place again by scrolling thru it the next time. Thank God for 3rd party app developers - sad that RIM couldn't put out a decent video player, pdf reader, or even include browser bookmarking, and they've had a year and a half to do it. So - props and thanks to the wonderful developers out there who make my Playbook do what it should have been able to right out of the box.

Re: How many new recent apps have you installed?
I bought Remote Media Player, which bookmarks the video. It also can fast forward and reverse in 30 second increments, which has come in handy when I don't pay attention to the video playing.
Also got Uncompressor, which extracts rar files. - 11-03-2012, 05:20 PM #17

Re: How many new recent apps have you installed?
Not much of an app guy, I really love the increasing game library though. I really don't care about price , as long as it's there I'm happy.
Just bought: Pop Corny, FlyCraft, Major Mayhem, and Tomb Escape (free)Sent from my Z10 or a soon to be BB10 PlayBook - 11-03-2012, 07:10 PM #20
Re: How many new recent apps have you installed?
What is the TS talking about?
Union just ported a ton of games to Playbook, we even got Shadowgun for free. Bullet Time just came to Playbook. There's also, Flycraft(exclusive for playbook). We got Modern Combat 3. Tomb escape has been made free. Bard's tale has been discounted. When it comes to games, the Playbook is really getting a good fair share of high quality games.
On the apps side, the Animated Weather HD by Andrei Avram is class. Kalemsoft released a media player that can play almost every file format. XLabz released a journal on top of their groovy notes. For a fee, you can get Pacemaker DJ app. There's no shortage of file managers.
I agree that apps are not coming quick enough but I think games are coming thick and fast.
Spend some time in the apps and games forum. You'll learn new stuff all the time.
