I have two mail accounts. In the mail application I do the following:
Swipe down->Settings
Alerts->Display Message Count->OFF
Alerts->Display New Message Indicator->OFF

I also go into Email Preferences and there are no additional settings for this. I do not want a never ending blinking light and top corner notification for mail.

How can I disable that? Oh no, another mail just arrived...

I guess that is a little quicker than actually checking the mail but it certainly doesn't stop it from happening.

What is the point of the off switches in the mail application if they are ignored?

Leaving wifi off is the best solution I have found so far.

It does not make sense. There must be a way to temporarily disable mail on the Playbook. That blinking light is murder... 300 messages a day I have to delete and they still come. Hate to destroy all the configs for the mail accounts.
