Is the HD video shot on a Playbook HDV?
Hi,
My title really asks my question.
I know the Playbook shoots a 720P HD and it outputs in MP4 files. But since these files can't be directly accepted by Final Cut Pro I'll have to convert them first. To do that it would be very helpful to know if the footage is the HDV form of HD.

The PB can also record 1080p video. I just checked out the generated video files using the VLC player which can display the used codecs.
The 720p and 1080p recorded video files use a H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) video codec and a MPEG-AAC (mp4a) audio codec which are stored in a "MP4" container file format.
I didn't know what codecs HDV is based on. But according to this wikipedia article: HDV - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia it is based on the H.262 / MPEG-2 video codec and MPEG-1 Audio Layer II codec.
So the video files generated by the PB are not in HDV format. They seem to be popular "internet formats". That means you could directly upload these files to Youtube or similar video streaming services which are using these codecs. The MPEG-4 AVC part 10 video codec is also used by AVCHD cams though combined with different audio codecs.Thanked by:canada john (05-28-2012)
