I use Magellan and BB Traffic and they are the best! Works great for me! Just make sure you have a clear shot of the sky to get the coordinates loaded. Buy Magellan Compass - Download Magellan Compass - Buy Apps from BlackBerry App World

Tom Tom, Magellan or Garmin should get into the act. I like Tom Tom the best. Perhaps when the mythical OS 2.0 arrives, we'll see some 'real' apps.

I love BB Traffic on my Torch and sure wish it was available for the PB.
However, the title of this thread is quite misleading given the actual comment made by the op. The PB GPS works beautifully: witness how easily Bing maps finds your location in less than 30 seconds when bridged (faster with wifi).
The title should instead be: "Wish the PB had better navigation apps like TomTom or Garmin". I call on the forum moderators to fix this misleading title.

Wow, over-the-top thread title.
Of course the PlayBook has a real GPS.
GPS apps though?... well, fine. No good offline map apps yet, etc. But that's using the terminology wrong.

Exactly. there are quite a few excellent GPS enabled apps including the web browser, Whats Up, FourPlay, Magellan Compass, Facebook, Today's Alarm, Poynt, Accuweather.com App, Evernote, Cineplex and more.
Magellan Compass works especially well when tethered to your Blackberry and includes the ability to record tracks to a gpx file. Stay away from the Skylabs stuff though.

Gotta love the false titles, I'd change it but I want people to click on it only to find out how ridiculous it is. |

Blaize, the problem is lots of folks surfing the net never get past the thread titles when browsing thru a forum... they leave CB getting quite the wrong impression based on all these inflammatory and misleading titles.

Much like how I use dramatic titles on Twitter.
Example: RIM is so broke, they better shut down shop - http://t.co/G6ZIor5P
Many haters re-tweeted it as being fact, never bothering to actually click on the link and read it, while those that did bother.. actually realized it was the farthest thing from the truth. Those truly interested in learning, will read beyond the title.. and those who just wish to spread hate, will look silly pointing others to the forums which shows the title as being inaccurate, lol.
Not all inaccurate titles are a BAD thing, this is an example of one that is fine because the thread simply proves itself as being erroneous.

| | Magellan Compass will have full function in a couple of month
For those of us using Magellan Compass, the are abandoning Google maps so they can offer offline maps, along with turn by turn instructions. This should be available in a couple of months. There is a thread in there somewhere in the apps section about it.

I have seen mods change thread titles that were far less ridiculous, misleading or inaccurate. Just change GPS to Nav and be done with it. Whats the big deal?

Some people actually don't understand that the GPS receiver is a piece of hardware not a software application.
I have emailed Garmin asking if they have plans to port their Garmin Mobile software to the Playbook. Their response is typical and understandable. They will port it if they feel there is enough interest.
So, if you would like to see Garmin Mobile on your Playbook you should probably contact Garmin and ask.

While the Garmin app for the phones is pretty good, I will not pay that much for a pb app, unless it includes offline maps and a reasonable update inclusion.
