Going thru airport security with PB
And problem with that? Can we stick it in our pocket (shirt or lite jacket) and send it through or do they want to treat the PB like a lap top pc (send it by it self thru the xray machine?). If so, it is such a small item that I worry someone with run off with my PB.

Not in your pocket, no.
As with all electronics you have to place it in the bin to be scanned. That includes cell phones, laptops and other devices.
You place your wallet and shoes in the bins too. I've never had anyone grabbing my stuff. Just keep an eye on it as it goes through.Thanked by:Willard814 (05-23-2012)

No, they should not make you remove it from your bag.

We took my PlayBook to Europe last fall, to use for travel updates, websites for tourist sites, e-mail, etc. I put both the tablet and my Torch in a separate bucket at Frankfurt airport, at their request. They did not ask to turn it on. No "dump" in a troll for compromising data, no privacy issues. They guard your possessions assiduously, to ensure that visual scan data is matched correctly to a person in line. One kid left his iPad in a bucket and walked off by mistake. They practically arrested him, hauling him off for an interview. But my tablet on its own garnered no particular interest. European airport security seems to be much more behaviour-focussed, and less concerned with the physical aspects of the person or their belongings. Very matter-of-fact, realistic and practical. And the PlayBook was a very useful tool, even with the odd tethered roaming when out of WiFi range.

I always set it in the plastic tray with my laptop. I don't bother to seperate them, if security wants to, then they have hands and they can do it themselves.
I've been through a lot of countries with my Playbook (we're both very well travelled
) doing this same procedure, it means the security personnel don't have an excuse to waste my time (and theirs) by getting overly sensitive about my electronic devices. And it's not as if it really takes you any longer to set it with a laptop, or on it's own, to go through the scanner.
Just for a side note, there are probably not that many fewer places that trying to "run-off" with someone else's belongings would be a bad idea... have you seen how many armed people there are in an airport, especially around the security check areas?!
Enjoy your flight.

I've gone through DIA, Midway, St. Louis, Burbank, and San Diego all within the last 2 weeks, and I was never asked to pull the PlayBook out of it's normal home inside my carry-on...I guess it depends on which TSA agent you get, and whether nor not he/she had a good morning.

My practice is that I leave it in the carry-on luggage or backpack unless the security people explicitly asks if I have a tablet. I've taken PB with me on plenty of flights and only once was I asked to take out a tablet. Most security people just asks for computers.

I left mine in my carry on along with my Kindle Touch and various other "small electronics". Just the laptop had to come out.

I had to laugh at that, though I'm sure it was mildly offensive to Michelle.

I've been through airport security at several US airports and not one person has asked me to separate it like my laptop. However, I think it's just because they don't have any idea what it is.

I recently traveled to and from UK...I had to put my Playbook and my phone in the same tray for them to be scanned...I also had my sister's tablet (a present for her
) and they gave me a weird look...

Airport Security
I travel frequently and at the five major airports that I go through do not require me to remove the PB from my carry-on. I specifically have asked the TSA agents and they only seem to want the laptops in the bin.

Here's an earlier thread on the topic:
TSA & PlayBook
Like with anything involving the TSA, your mileage may vary based on the airport and the agent. The one trip I've taken since I got my PlayBook, I never had to take it out at ATL or LAS. I think now that tablets are becoming such a common item for travelers, folks are not having to remove them from their bags since the agents seem to understand policy now. Now if some terrorist figures out how to take a tablet apart, put some explosives in it and put it back together without it looking like anything is amiss, we're screwed. - 05-23-2012, 11:46 PM #19
Five trips this year so far, three across the border, and asked to remove my PB twice. Once in Calgary and once in Vegas.
But accordingly, you don't have to unless requested to.

Traveled at least 12 times since getting my PB (at launch last year) through LIH, HNL, OGG, ITO, LAS, LAX and ORD and never had to take the PB out of my bag. Only once was my bag rescanned...and after talking with the agent while he searched it...it was because of my Cruzer Titanium USB flash drive and not the PB.
I would say you are good to go. But one thing this business traveler has learned and always considered...with the TSA you never really know. - 05-25-2012, 01:36 AM #22@_Miche11e_

PHEW. My friend is travelling from Toronto to Vegas soon with her PB. It seems there won't be any problems there.
The Captains ought to have PlayBooks just like a thread of 'a playbook in another helicopter'
I wouldn't like the thought of them landing the aircraft whilst playing Angry Birds though. - 05-25-2012, 06:11 AM #24
I leave PB in back pack and never had TSA question, that's 6 flights in last 2 months...... Just my experience.

I have left it in my carry on bag.
I have left my Windows tablet in my carry on.
I leave my laptop in a neoprene protective sleeve and put it in the bin.
Phone is off and in my bag usually.
In fact I usually put everything in my bag and just forget about the bins. It is faster for all of us.
If they have a problem with it then they obviously haven't read their own rules.
Now concerning the passenger ahead of me in line that decides at the last possible second to take his jacket and shoes off and then empties their pockets then I just stare at them as I go around their lazy and unorganized self.
