I found the standard Gmail browser page to hang/lag a bunch when trying to send an email. I found an option at the very bottom of the screen within the Gmail browser page that stated "basic HTML" as an option. This made a huge difference and no more lag. This is at the bottom left side of the page in the same area where you can select the different web views of Gmail such as "Desktop" Just a tip for those who care.
