Default FYI: Dell Bluetooth Travel Mouse

Just an FYI for everyone since there seems to be debate (and many questions about which bluetooth mouse works with the Playbook.

I was on the fence for a while and was going to buy the Microsoft BT mouse 5000 (I think that was the model, there's only one and if you search it you will find it) but have heard from several users as well as from a friend that it does not work with the Playbook. Apparently it pairs but no mouse pointer comes up on the screen.

Anyway, after deliberating for a while I decided to purchase the Dell BT travel mouse (link below) for my Playbook/Laptop and I must say it works like a charm. It's a 5-button mouse with back/forward and scroll wheel-click functionality. The device paired very quickly and is smooth. Scrolling works nicely on web pages and in documents (haven't tested on long pdfs yet but I'm pretty sure it will be fine). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for anyone looking to get a small, BT travel mouse compatible with both the Playbook and Laptops!

This is just a link to the official product page on Dell's website. I got mine for $15 NEW on Amazon. WOOT!

UPDATE: the mouse has been working nicely however there is no scroll wheel functionality in adobe. I'm pretty sure its because the app though since thees no vertical scrollbar only the horizontal at bottom. Hopefully this will be integrated with some mouse options for the playbook soon.

Yep a mini-arrow pops up n u can basically click anything n everything as if it's touch. I just wish the scroll would be integrated into the "All" screen when it's maximized so you could scroll to the bottom of the list instead of having to click and drag-flick. Good overall though!

Type "dell bluetooth mouse" and it should popup. You just need to find the right priced one. There are a lot of used ones for sale for cheaper but I can't vouch for their quality.

This is the exact one I got but price changed a lil. Still well worth it in my opinion.

    Default Multiple BT connections

Thanks for the post. Can you use the mouse while connected with Bridge, or is it one or the other?

The mouse is on special at DELL.CA (in Canada) for $15.00.

BTW, I own this mouse, and I can't say that I'm a big fan of it when using it with my m11x. It doesn't track nearly as well as my Logitech VX Revolution / Marathon mouse. Even when I'm travelling, I'm more inclined to bring the much larger logitech around.

Yeah it's not a hard-core, high-performance mouse but it works for me when I'm out with my laptop/pb. That Logitech mouse is wireless too I believe. I needed bluetooth n heard the V470 wasn't that great for its price so I decided with this one. Really cheap too!

I received the Dell mouse today. It works very well with internet browsing, but performance within Bridge email is hit or miss. It does not perform similarly in Bridge to a mouse within a computer environment. Some clicks register, some do not. For example, when I hit the X delete button, the button visibly compresses, but does not bring up the delete icon. It will also not work to navigate the inbox.

It seems to work well with all of the other PB functions I have tried, but have not tried too many.

I am not thrilled with the speed of the pointer. It can be adjusted on a computer operating Windows etc. but I do not see a way to increase the speed on the PB. If anyone has solved this, please post.

Despite some of the limitations, this in addition the the Microsoft BT keyboard mean I rarely have to touch the screen to locate the cursor or navigate around. I am keeping it.

Hey Rjom just saw your reply and tested out mine again. As for the bridge problems you're experiencing I can't say I was able to replicate them. HOWEVER, I did notice that when pushing heavy data through BT via bridge apps (calender, messages, bbm) all at once, the pointer scrolling smoothness does degrade a little. This wasn't apparent when I first wrote this review and hope I didn't mislead anyone. It's not a big problem just somewhat finicky when the load is heavy. As for pointer move speed mine is actually pretty quick considering how shrunken the actual pointer is (relative). I installed the mouse on my laptop and fiddled with some of the logitech program settings (you need to find the logitech mouse support externally by doing a google search, not hard to find) and that might be why mine is smooth and perfect speed? Not sure though as I don't think any settings are saved locally on the actual mouse. Hope this helps and hope my initial review helped you get a good, cheap BT mouse =)

I can vouch for the Microsoft 5000 mouse. It pairs but does NOT work. My Sony Ericsson K850i makes a cursor appear and everything works except scrolling. What the heck... But my jaw did drop from amazement and a giggled as I paused/played media.

Anyway, if the playbook's bluetooth is turned on, does it pair automatically once the mouse is turned on, assuming there was a previous pairing before?

Wow I thought this thread was dead 5 months ago! Guess people still use the search function in these forums eyyyy. As for the mouse auto-connecting it has every time for mine. The only time it didn't was when it was already BT paired/connected to my laptop then I turned on the BT on Playbook. I think I asked this in some other thread but not sure which device takes priority if both are trying to access the same device (laptop & PB w/ 1 mouse). I'm still using the mouse to this day and it's working great! Oh and the batteries still haven't been changed =) Take it for what you want, this is just my experience and I'm not sure the price is still where it was when I posted this.

Does anyone know if the dell f299k works? It looks exactly the same as the 300 except it is black. I should have gotten that one... but the again a black mouse is easier to lose.

Did you purchase the Glossy Obsidian Black Mouse or the Matte Black now being offered by Dell for $16.99? Does it matter?

I have a Microsoft BT Notebook Mouse 5000 and I have just paired it with my new PB running 2.0.1.358. It pairs and it works. It does show a mouse cursor.

I have only the Microsoft 5000 mouse and if I turn BT of the PB on the mouse connects to the PB again as soon as I move it around a bit.

I think it would be a good idea to have a sticky thread where people can post working / not working information for all to see.
