Went to Future Shop to buy a Playbook for my wife and it seems like Future shop doesn't have any at all and don't have any clue if they are getting any in the forseeable future. Anybody know whats going on?

The source sent me an email today with link to deals but the prices weren't great... But they do have them. But watch out some of the deals are overpriced accessories bundles with no playbook

Had it in my cart ready to order! But left it there for others

Was at a Future Shop a couple of nights ago looking for a last minute gift and asked about the stock situation. I was told by the "tablet" specialist that most stores get 5 in overnight which are normally sold before lunch. Seems like if you really want one you have to be there at store opening during the week. Or go to The Source

Yeah I was at a Best Buy recently and they had a pile of Nexus 7's and Playbooks. Neither had demo models and all boxes in the display cases were marked Open Box. If it's a gift for someone, buy it, save a few bucks and just take off the Open Box stickers :P Oh and do a security wipe on the tablet before giving it... Just in case.

It is probably not that odd. The wifi pb has not really been in production for more than a year and has been sold at fire sale prices for months. Stores and Rim have been trying to sell off the existing inventory. There is the newer cell-empowered pb's but those are more costly. So, at this point, no one knows how many new pb's are actually available for sale anymore.

Not surprised at the PB being out of stock. i think this is the year for the tablets. Come January almost every home will have one.

Well various Walmarts in Hamilton, ON are/have been out of stock for a while. But interestingly enough it is not just BB Playbook. A number of other tablet brands are out of stock. The only plentiful supply seems to be for ipads. Then, at their price I can understand that. Funny, those Walmarts have yet to see a Ipad mini come in.

The Playbook having had a price tag for $148 CDN likely sold at a high rate and production didn't keep up. I'm also thinking that RIM will ramp up production after the BB10 release and have BB10 OS in the Playbook.

Walmart usually has them in stock at least here they do I can buy one anyway of the week here. If you have a London drugs they have them in stock as well.

Some of us have concluded that the date on the box is the date it was, well, boxed. Maybe it is possible that they are still assembling some of them from parts in warehouses???? Obviously, if there is a factory somewhere making the 3g versions, it could possibly assemble wifi units, too.

It's entirely possible that there are degrees to what RIM has inventory on. They may be fairly light on assembled PlayBook skus, but might still have parts to make 32 GB, 64 GB WiFi and 32 GB LTE units and assemble them as needed.

Playbook is due for new hardware specs. Period. Apple has 6-10mo upgrade cycles. Rim is at 16-24mo cycles....
