Free At&t Tether / Internet on Playbook without paying $20 a month?
Is there anyway that At&t customers can use the browser / Internet for Free? I hardly take my Playbook anywhere that doesn't have WIFI. It would be nice to use every once in awhile but I do not want to pay $20 a month for the tether.
UPDATE: Sorry, someone sent me the link. Trying it now.Last edited by buzzon; 11-02-2011 at 12:50 PM.

Links are here: http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...-6-5-a-621230/
Works fine for me and my ATT 9800. Very little used for data limits, but when needed works really well. - 11-29-2011, 03:23 PM #8
Make sure you delete the old bridge on your BB first.

Thanks alot, rroyy!
The Bridge is awesome, gives the Playbook the functions I wish it had come with. - 04-30-2012, 12:03 AM #10
how do I get this to work?
I used the link on my torch to download the bridge app (after first deleting my existing bridge app) and it says it successfully downloaded and required a reboot, which I did. Now I cannot find it on my Torch and have no idea how to use it! Is there further guidance somewhere on what to do after the download in order to get my playbook bridged with my torch again?
I feel like a fool. How did everyone else get this to work?
Somewhere I saw a paid app you can buy to by-pass the at&t charge for tethering the playbook. Now I can't find it. I thought it was called bluetether or something like that. Has anyone tried it? - 04-30-2012, 08:45 AM #12
I would look in Options, applications (I don't know the menu structure of that phone) and see if it shows up. It might be in your downloads folder. But if it is still missing, but installed UNinstall/delete it and try getting it again. Reboot between steps.
To the other poster, it is not a one-time $20 but a monthly $20 which does start to add up on top of whatever the user already pays monthly for UNlimited data.Thanked by:Willard814 (05-08-2012)

OK it's there but I still don't know how to get it running!
thanks for the replies. I can find that special RROYY version of bridge (2.0.0.26) is on my phone, but I don't know how to tell if it is "installed" or just downloaded (I suspect only the latter). So now I am trying to figure out how one installs an app that didn't come in through AppWorld or the AT&T App Center.
I am still baffled that others did not need help with this. Should it have appeared on my home screen? Is there some basic function I need to learn for downloading and installing apps that is obvious to all other users?? - 04-30-2012, 10:02 AM #16
The same thing happened with my wife's 9700 but worked fine on my 9800.
Try to delete the bridge app and install an earlier version. If that works then update to the latest.Last edited by Chaddface; 04-30-2012 at 12:14 PM.

Run it on the phone. You will need to PAIR it with your pb. On the PB, find the Bridge in the Options (gear symbol, upper right). Both the phone and pb will kind of ask a sequence of questions to either auto-pair them by scanning a bar code, or manually entering some code to make sure that they can talk with one another. You might have to make one or other DISCOVERABLE - meaning allow the bluetooth to find or pair with another device. I usually allow about 2 minutes but if you fumfer you might need more time.

I assumed that, since I always upgrade to the latest OS offered, I was using the one with the highest number (plus thought I needed the one specially called out for AT&T users) -- did not know my torch was so old-school!
So, I used the link for 2.0.0.25 for OS6 and, HALLELUJAH!! it works!
THANK YOU!!
(and AT&T: you can kiss my torch! I think paying for one data plan should suffice!)Thanked by:Willard814 (05-08-2012)

You cannot tether with Sprint unless you accept the TOS that presents itself when one attempts to connect via one's Personal Hot Spot, which means you accept the fact you will be charged for using your hot spot with another mobile device. Bridge is an entirely different beast, and Sprint, for now, has accepted that. Bridge is free on Sprint (which means they are not blocking this feature, like AT&T), and on other carriers; tethering is not. Comprende?
