I wanted to run a little survey on what you have for free RAM after a fresh boot-up on your PlayBook.
I have: 656.9MB
PlayBooks differ from 'Berry phones in that they don't load applications into the RAM, correct? In that case, would the same OS version on PlayBook have the exact same amount of free RAM across different PlayBooks?
well, this survey would work if people stated which version of the OS they are running, as each build may differ slightly. ill just reboot and get back to you
rebooted the 32GB playbook- 451mb free - OS 2.0.0.7111

On beta 2.0.0.7111 after reboot i have 470.5 mb. On OS 1.0, I notice they have more ram available after reboot. Now the question is what would happen with the official OS? How much ram would be available then?
I suspect the Android player is what steals the RAM, since its always running regardless of doing anything. when official 2.0 is released i imagine that the PB will idle at about 550mb.
The android player is on always because the google apps are designed to be integrated. so as i understand it, there is effectivly a shell version of android running alongside the PB software. we all know how long it takes the Playbook and Android devices to boot up, imagine waiting even half that time every time you clicked to open an android app. it would make the system unusable.

I hope there is a way to disable Android Player. I personally don't need it. Can anyone comment?
I agree, I think a helpful feature would be to have the ability to turn it off so its not taking up extra ram. If RIM finds a way to optimize it, then it may not be needed, but the extra 200mb of ram it uses really takes a chunk out of the amount of apps and browser windows you can have open. Its a very noticeable difference.
I just went back to 1.0.8.6067 last night. After a reboot where it came up bridged to my BB, it showed 630MB free. I changed screens and went back to it and it shows 643 free now.
Don't forget, the dev beta had debugging stuff running. May not be the same implementation or usage in the official OS.
573.1 on restart. Wonder what's eating my memory? Any tips for cleaning things up (other than the Android thing, which clearly hasn't been figured out yet)
