Flash unit for PB Camera
Here is my idea of a flash unit for the PlayBook camera.
A regular battery powered flash unit triggered by a bluetooth signal. When you take a picture, the bluetooth signal triggers the Flash unit. This no wires, flash unit has its own battery supply.
Any developer or hardware designer like to consider this? - 04-21-2012, 04:16 PM #2
Devs will be able to do this soon.
I waited...It launched...Im still waiting...

I suspect the timing of the flash to be too critical for this to work.
Still, maybe... - 04-21-2012, 04:30 PM #4Cell Phone History:Motorola Bag phone > Motorola Star Tac gen1 > Motorola Star Tac gen 2 > Motorola Razr > BlackBerry Pearl(8110) > Iphone gen1 > BlackBerry Curve(8310 Red) > BlackBerry Torch(9800 Black) > BlackBerry Torch II(9810 Gunmetal Silver) > BlackBerry Bold 9900) > BlackBerry Z10(STL100-3 Black)

My son and I were talking about an led clipped to the top of the Playbook!
BB then, now, forever...yeah, I said it. - 04-21-2012, 10:27 PM #6
I think the software would have to pause and wait for a "echo" response from the flash that it was ready. Still, any service running might interrupt that and so much for timing.

For Apple products with a 30 pin dock, there is a led light attachment that stays on, not flash. I would hope same thing would work with the usb port.

There have been flash slave units available for decades. All you need is something to trigger it. Add in a few more camera settings to turn the flash mechanism on, change the light settings for the exposure, it is doable.

I put together a makeshift light unit using an old 6 volt canon vid light. I found a 9 volt source works great. I turn it on and hold above the edge of the PB for either cam or vid. It provides enough static light to take a snap. It. Is put together in use with a strip of duct tape...btw Red Green would be proud lol.

OMG im pmsl >_< is this thread a joke ? Seriously? youre going to stick a lamp on top of your playbook to capture those awesome night shots that you would usually miss because of a lack of a flash, why not just walk around with a miners helmet on incase you ever need the bright lights.

Not worth it. i just did a side job running electrics on a music video shoot, and took the playbook along for pics n stuff. Proof i did the work in case i want to do movies full time.
Even with properly set up lighting the pics and video are poor and grainy. Why? Fixed focus, fixed stop, fixed iso.... You get the idea.
The worst was the pics of the hot makeup chick are the poorest of the bunch. The cars and the jet turned out ok i guess.i'm drinking to make you seem smarter. i need to drink a lot more.
